Today is the first day of the Austin City Limits Music Festival. A fine event no doubt, but one i have no interest in at all.
What has my shorts in a wad are all the turistas who have arrived for said event. They are driving around downtown and the immediate vicinity with no clue as to where they are, making illegal and dangerous turns, stopping in the middle of streets and even intersections with a dazed look, and generally snarling traffic. Like it's not bad enough already, the average Austinite having the driving skills of a gerbil.
The pedestrians are almost as bad, crossing streets in groups at their leisure with no regard for crosswalks, traffic or traffic lights. One would think from the way they gawk while walking around that they had never seen a building more then three or four stories high, and that traffic is a new phenomenon to them.
Being a helpful sort, i offer some suggestions to the visitors to our fair city. Maps are readily
available from many of our friendly merchants. Map quest and google maps are free and printable. One might even pull over safely
and ask for directions. Most of us are more then willing to help.
We really do want you to enjoy your visit. But holy cow people, a little common sense goes a long way.
