Oh, Christmas - what a crazy collection of emotions you elicit from me. There are certain aspects of Christmas that I absolutely love. I love the snow. I love the hustle bustle of millions of people shopping for the right gifts, long lines and insane traffic. I love my family's Christmas Eve tradition of watching a new Christmas movie, making delicious snacks and playing games or Guitar Hero or just shooting the shit - whatever we choose to do to spend time together. I love the smell of Christmas trees, and I especially love the way they softly light up the room at nighttime. I love the way my house smells after I make cookies or a cake (which is delicious even though I put the icing on too soon and it kind of fell apart at the top - don't judge me. I'm not a damn dessert chef, kthx.) I love how TBS plays A Christmas Story for 24 solid hours 
and there are other various Christmas movies on TV for weeks beforehand. It really is one of my favorite times of the whole year.
Buuuuuuuuuuuut (there's always a but), Christmas is also the only time out of the entire year that I mind being by myself. I've been single since Michael and I broke up in...2009? Almost 2 years, I think. Anyway, it's been a while, and I've not only been okay with it, I've really enjoyed it. I've enjoyed growing as a person and learning about myself. I've enjoyed gaining some independence and being able to focus on just me and the things that I want to do. I've been thrilled not to have to put up with all of the bullshit that inevitably comes with even the best of relationships. I've even been glad to not have shit to do on Valentine's Day. I've been happy to avoid all the obligatory activities and conversations about feelings and boundaries and "I want to sleep with the door closed." "No, I want to sleep with it open." kind of dumb shit that tends to go on in relationships.
But at Christmas time, my mind shifts a little bit. I think less about all the annoyances and more about cheesy crap like decorating a Christmas tree, cuddling under a blanket and watching a movie, drinking hot chocolate, horse and carriage rides...all that goofy stuff that you see in completely unrealistic romance movies
but with the little aspects of real life that make it so much sweeter...like having to put up the tree and make sure it's straight before you can decorate it 
then finding out that there is no such thing as a kitty-proof Christmas tree, having to stop movies and TV shows in the middle because someone inevitably has to go to the bathroom, burning your tongue because in 25 or 30 or however many years of life you haven't learned that hot chocolate is motherfucking HOT you asshole, and horse and carriage rides that sound super romantic but cost $5 a person, last all of 7 minutes and are on the main road so you have people in cars staring at you awkwardly the whole time - that is of course after you stood in line for an hour in 30 degree weather waiting for your turn, and piss off the rest of the line if you opt to go just the two of you instead of squeezing a couple strangers in with you to make it go faster for everybody. (That got a little ranty at the end there, didn't it? LOL)
Anyway, Christmas is a fairly confusing time of year for this girl, so I thought I'd vent it out a little. Luckily New Year's is right around the corner and I can drink myself into an emotionless oblivion and forget all of this hokey crap
