I felt it best to post this to my blog.. as this is just a status update, and I have no significant information yet.
Today, after setbacks due to hospitalizations, bronchial asthma, weather problems, and a whole host of other issues, my mom finally got in the ninth chemo treatment that her doctor wanted her to have.
Now.. we have a waiting game. My mom has to go for a full body scan on Tuesday, April 5. Two weeks after that, on Tuesday, April 19, we have a meeting with the Dr at his office, to learn the results of the scan, and what comes next.
Today at chemo, we had positive news, but also one bit of concern. Thankfully, the blood cell count is normal. Platelets, white cell, and red cell. However, one source of concern, is that my mom has lost an additional four lbs, in less than three weeks since her last treatment. Her appetite and her stomach have been affected by the chemo. While the nurse didn't seem worried or alarmed over the weight loss.. she did say it's something to be watched. Overall, the nurses and Drs think my mom looks well, and are encouraged that she seems able to keep a normal schedule, and hasn't had to be confined to the house, thankfully, for any length of time.
As most people know, for the most part, except for the hospitalization for bronchial asthma that she had back in October, I've been fairly composed since we met these doctors last June. I have every confidence that they will extend my mom's life, God willing.
I will admit.. that I'm apprehensive now. My mom says we just have to go about our lives for the next two weeks, and then have to do the same, while we're waiting for the results to come back, until the meeting with the doctor two weeks after the body scan.
Hopefully all will turn out okay, and.. the doctor's previous recent prediction of "I'm confident the tumors have shrunk, I just dont know how much". (His words) will come true.
So, that's the update. I will post again about this after the scan, and the meeting with the Dr.
All thoughts and prayers will/would be appreciated. Thanks.
Mitch
