Well, it's been a long time. But I've been rather busy since my last entry. 😛
I moved into my dorm room last Sunday. I arrived in Bloomington the Saturday before and I stayed at a hotel on campus with my mom and brother. Frankly, I'm surprised we were able to fit everything into our tiny car.
I'm pretty comfortable in my new room. I got me some snacks, my laptop, and a few decorations, so I have all the comforts of my old home.
I'm just amazed at how many new people I've met so far! Everyone is just so friendly at Collins! *__*
OH, yes. Welcome Week! Well, the Collins Living-Learning Community has a theme for the Welcome Week activities before classes start...usually set around a work of literature. This year's theme was "The Hobbit". 😀
Here's a rundown of all the things I've done this week. For starters, I watched a ton of movies with my family before they went back home. "Stand By Me", "Donnie Darko", "Twelve and Holding", and "A Scanner Darkly". ^_^
On Monday, I went to the Bloomington Wal-Mart and just absolutely loved it there. I saw Asians, Muslims, Mennonites, AND lesbians! : You don't see that at all back in the podunk Henderson Wal-Mart. Everyone is so rude there and you always feel as if someone is glaring at you.
Wednesday was when I watched "The Hobbit" animated feature on an outside movie projector in the Collins courtyard. I didn't really have anyone to hang with, but I didn't care as the movie itself was good enough for me. And after that, I sadly looked around me at all the groups scattered around the courtyard and slowly made my back to my hall, which was up on the hill, a block away from the main quad. But I stopped when I saw a cute little baby bunny hop in front of me and eat the grass near the sidewalk. I had never been that close to a rabbit before, so I just stopped and stared at it for a while. And then out of the blue, this nice girl walks up to me and starts chatting. She told me that she thought I looked sad, but I reassured her that I was simply preoccupied with the bunny. LOL She even gave me a hug 'cause she thought I needed one. 🙂 So yeah, we hit it off right away...and all thanks to a baby bunny.
Then on Thursday, I went to this neat little fair called the Culture Fest. It was basically about embracing diversity and returning to your inner child...the part of you that emphasized the similarities with others rather than the differences. Each booth was set up by one of multicultural organizations. There was one for the LGBT community, Latinos, Asians, African-Americans, international students, etc. They even had free samples of food. I got to try buffalo jerky for the first time. ^_^ I was also very thankful to be walking around the Fest with two girls from my floor. They are such sweeties.
And then after that, I went to the annual Collins glowstick walk. Basically, it's like a small tour of the campus where everyone is given this bendable glowstick to wear and we walk around at night, with frequent stops where we are told ghost stories about certain buildings. That was pretty cool. And I even made a new friend there. 😀
But wow, I don't think I had ever walked so much. Being a person with severely flat feet, walking long distances is rather painful for me. It's so unfair...I have to walk slow and if it wasn't for my feet I'd be walking about as fast as an average person. :/ And since the bus system at this university sucks, I have to walk to all my classes. Well, at least my classes aren't too terribly far away.
Anyway, on Friday I attended the Open House for the LGBT Student Center. I met this really nice girl from Kazahkstan! : And I also met this cute little Asian boy (or Gaysian) from Shanghai, China. God, I love international students. I have a feeling that they'll turn out to be very dear friends to me.
And after that, I attended this cute little Hobbit-themed skit in the Collins dining hall. I say it was cute because the script incorporated something about the Collins or IU lifestyle. Afterwards, we were given plastic swords and asked to go to the Stadium to show off our Collins pride. But my poor feet were protesting, so I decided to go back to my dorm. xD Although I did go to the talent show in the Coffeehouse and that was a lot of fun!
And then yesterday all I really did was eat some free pizza on the Hill and talked with a lot of awesome people that I had met before.
Today, I mostly just took it easy and stayed in my room to give my feet a good rest. But this friendly girl from my floor invited me to have brunch with her, her boyfriend, and a few of his friends so at least I did something today. And wow, there are soooo many vegetarians in Collins. It almost pressures me into becoming one...almost. I love the taste of meat too much to give it up. I respect their choice, but I personally would rather have roast beef over a mushroom burger and tofu scramble. lol
But yeah, I've been adjusting quite well to the college life so far. Classes start tomorrow, so I'm pretty excited about that. Despite having duck feet, I'm very glad to be active. I'm not used to walking and talking so much, and honestly I'm glad to have a refreshing change of pace from my old lifestyle where I stayed cooped up in my room all freakin' day.
And my Video of the Day is the Chocolate episode of "Target Women". So lulzy!
