After work on Friday I joined my boyfriend Dan, his dad Dave and their friend Randy on their camping trip near the Minnesota River.
I'm not much of a camper, but I went along because I got to be with my boyfriend for the weekend. It was nice being able to get away and just enjoy my full weekend off, something I hadn't had in awhile.
Friday night temps got as cold as 50 degrees, which is well below average for midsummer in Minnesota. Trying to sleep in a tent with temps that low was difficult but I had Dan next to me. Saturday night it got colder. It got as low as 43 degrees. Man that was fucking cold, trying to sleep in the tent. I was shivering despite a tshirt, a sweatshirt and sweat pants on with Dan next to me and blanket covering us both.
Anyway, we also fished while we camped. I have never fished before, well according to my mom I went fishing once with my dad but I was really, really little so I don't remember it at all. So this was my first time fishing. The whole weekend we didn't catch very much, just mainly catfish, sheephead, and carp.
There was this one fish we named Houdini because he kept stealing our bait without us knowing until we pulled our lines in. Not even a jiggle on the line to indicate that something was trying to get the bait. It happened enough times that we started regularly checking our lines to see if we had been 'Houdini-ed'. Lol. 😀
I had a couple nibbles but after I tried reeling them in, they managed to break free. I finally caught a fish right before I had to leave Sunday night. I caught an *alligator gar, a nasty little fucker, but since it was first catch ever I had to take pictures of it. Lol. 😀
Overall I had fun. I didn't catch the fishing bug, but I wouldn't mind doing it again. I went because I would be with my boyfriend, and I would be happy just being able to spend time with him. But I ended up having more fun than I thought I would.
*Correction: I thought it was an alligator gar, but alligator gar aren't found in Minnesota. It's a long-nosed gar.
