Many of you are aware of the problems we have had with our 11 year old the past few years. His Asperger's sydrome (a form of autism) has often made life difficult at best.
In fifth grade last year 911 was called on several occasions because of his meltdowns, to the point that he had to stay in a children's psych unit for 8 days for evaluation.
With a couple of months left in the school year we managed to get him into a state funded school that was better equiped to deal with kids with all types of problems.
He managed to do ok, still having meltdowns and issues but nothing that the school couldnt handle.
We increased the dose of meds he was on at the beginning of the summer and a month later added another med to the mix, following the recommendation of his Doctor.
The summer had its ups and downs as usual, but he seemed to be a little more in control of his emotions as we awaited the 6'th grade school year to start..
He has attended his first 6 days of 6'th grade and has had a perfect behavior record on all of them. No time outs....no being taken out of the room...and a perfect score of 400/400 on each days chart so far this year...(with a few bonus points thrown in....)
His teacher called us the first day to tell us what a pleasure he was to have in class, which stunned both Tracy and I....
We have prayed for him to turn the corner in life so that he would fit in with other kids and adjust to his surroundings and function on a more normal level....Our prayers have been answered.....
No...life is not perfect and he still has his moments, but not unlike any normal kid in his age group....this is all we have ever asked for...
Love to all of you who have been the rocks we lean on through the hard times...If not for you as friends we might have given up ong ago and placed him outside of the home environment...
thanks for all of the love and support....
