The previously mentioned (in my last blog entry) touching/tickling strangers thread is now locked. Probably just as well, really. Not so much because of the depravity that some of the posters’ comments had sunk to, but because nothing new was being said. I implied towards the beginning of the thread that I was half-expecting fireworks; what we actually got was more like an increasingly violent merry-go-round, with some members pushing harder than others. (Perhaps this is what accounts for my feeling nauseated at various points during the ‘ride’.)
Judging by the abrupt change in tack from some of the ‘harder pushing’ members during the ride’s last few revolutions, I think it’s safe to assume that some serious ‘moderation’ was meted out just before the padlock brought everything to a halt. It’s a shame when the moderators are reduced to the role of bouncers, breaking up the brawl and kicking everyone out back onto the street, but there you go. I guess it comes with the territory!
And yet, I still hold that there are more positives than negatives to be taken from these ‘shitstorm’ threads. I think. lol In fact, I thought of another positive aspect which did not occur to me when I was writing my last blog entry: They grant you a more revealing glimpse of people’s characters. Anyone can give a good impression of themselves when the pressure is off; but when your opinions are being challenged – or even politely questioned – how do you comport yourself then? What tone do you take with your fellow members then? And another positive off-shoot from that: once you’ve seen what people are REALLY like, then you know which members to steer clear of! Or, at any rate, to give a wide berth. This is useful stuff, methinks.
And another thing methinks: That is all.
