Anyone in the Philadelphia area or who pays attention to such things.
Jim Gardner.. the wonderful lead anchor for WPVI TV the ABC Station in Philadelphia. is "gradually moving toward retirement"" according to Mr Gardner.
Several weeks ago, Gardner announced on air that he will be leaving the 11 pm show in early January, with his last show likely tonight.
Gardner's final broadcast at WPVI will be in December, 2022.
I've noticed that during the opening credits of the 6 pm Newscast, the station still credits him, but at 11 they do not.
I dont remember what year I actually started watching Gardner. It was definitely in the early 2000s.
After my mother's passing in 2012, when I moved to NY, TMF Jeff found me the link to WPVI and Gardner's newscast, for which I am eternally grateful.
I probably would have found it eventually, but knowing my technical skills, it would have taken some time lol.
If all is in on schedule as it seems, and he is not on Monday night at 11 or afterward any night at 11, that will be strange enough.
When he retires for good, that will be truly strange.
At 74 years old, and after 46 years at WPVI Gardner will then have a well deserved retirement.
Good Luck to Mr Gardner in his retirement.
As with any noted personality, there will be many people, including me, who will miss him.
Until then, I will just watch him this next year hopefully when he is on.
