I spend yesterday watching the entire first season of AMC's original production of The Walking Dead.
It got me thinking about some things:
*Is there such a thing as an anorexic zombie? or a fat zombie?
*If there are in fact anorexic zombies, would it be considered genocide to kill an anorexic zombie?
*What happens after the zombies run out of living people to eat? (slightly addressed in 28 days later)
==================================================
If there were anorexic zombies with anorexia medically defined as loss of appetite, why would this not apply to zombies? Just because their undead they should not suddenly become status quo undead walkers.
Each zombie should be as individual as each living person. The depiction of zombies in mass media is really unfair if you saw "life" from the perspective of the undead.
You have a minority of people who are killing your kind just because they don't like your race. The attempt to annihilate zombies for personal survival could be considered genocide. I bet a lot of people would claim self-defense which would be a moot point as the zombies would be the dominant race during a zombie apocalypse.
The events during and right after the so-called apocalypse seem to receive much more emphasis than what happens in the long term.
Earth has billions of years until it is annihilated. The end of the world is not going to happen with just one catastrophic event like a zombie apocalypse. The zombies would need to have some way to proliferate their species otherwise they'd go extinct just as fast. 28 days later
brought up an interesting notion that zombies were capable of starving to death. This is just one possible outcome for human and zombie kind.
Such events may mean the end of humanity, but time would still go on.
It is hard to believe that zombies would indefinitely rule the world as the new dominant race on the planet. Something has to happen to the zombies after extinction of humanity but this is seldom addressed. The origin of zombies could also be brought into question.
The cause of the transformation from human to zombie is usually shown to be cause by some kind of an ailment.
Assuming the ailment had an infection rate as high as 90%, the ailment would be so efficient that it would end up being too efficient effectively burning itself out before it can reach full pandemic level. Another problem with full pandemic is proximity of carriers to uninfected inhabitants.
Looking back to the recent events dealing with sickness, many which involved casualties, no one sickness has had such an impact that it was able to infect the entire world.
Swine flu: China and Taiwan were not hit very bad.
SARS: Killed a bunch of people and then kinda burned out. Helped prompt mask wearing in Asian countries.
Bird flu: The States had cases but not widespread. One of the reasons Asians wear masks still.
HIV/AIDS: spread but not necessarily catastrophic levels except maybe Africa.
EBOLA: Killed the populace before it could spread.
Don't take my word for it. Please do your own research by playing games like Pandemic and Pandemic 2. Humans are annoyingly resilient to death.
I'd expect cell phones to annihilate humanity before zombies would even have a chance to be unborn.
