what weird and wonderful stuff do you guys have in your music collections that you view as seminal recordings of any type?anything you've bought that you thought was going to be great, but turned out a complete pile of crap?hmm.best keep to the better ones.unless you feel the urge.

Bell Bottom Blues, Derek and The Dominos. Not weird, but a masterpiece of blues music.

Can't Find My Way Home, by Blind Faith. The founding members were Eric Clapton, Ginger Baker, Steve Winwood and Ric Grech. It does not get much better than that. Sadly they only released one album, in 1969. The album cover in this video is the original, released only in Europe. The album released in America featured a photograph of the band members on the cover.

Hmmm...........

I guess for me it would have to be the slow movement of Beethoven's String Quartet #15, Op. 132. It's much too long to embed here (probably a good 17 or 18 minutes). There are several videos on YouTube if you want to check it out on your own.

To me, it embodies spirituality, especially when one is aware of the notes Beethoven made in the margins and in the header referencing the "Gottheit" (the "Godhead").

I Just Wanna Make Love To You, Foghat. This is from their first album released in the U.S., in 1970. I think its the best album they ever produced.

Bach's Toccata and Fugue in D Minor. The Philadelphia Symphony Orchestra, conducted by the legendary Leopold Stokowski. It was later featured in the 1940 Disney classic Fantasia.

A couple years back, I tried some mid-70s King Crimson. But just couldn't get into it.

But here's someone I'll always go back to.....from my favorite era of his:

In the category of folk music, I never get tired of this classic. City of New Orleans by Arlo Guthrie, written by Steve Goodman.

Moreschi - The Last Castrato.

It is the only know recording of an Italian castrati opera singer, recorded in 1902. It is weird but amazing.

Great voice. Odd sound.

Run For Home, Lindisfarne. They reached the charts 6 times in the UK, including this song which charted at #10 in 1978 but they were largely unknown in America. This is my personal favorite.

Sunshine Of Your Love, by Cream. First released on their Disraeli Gears album in November 1967, it was issued as a single in January 1968. It was their only single to reach gold-selling status in America. A seminal song that helped define the psychedelic era of rock and roll.
