Chat room problems (Firefox user)

Anytime I try to enter the chat room my laptop freezes and I get a "not responding" error message.

My sketchy computer knowledge suggests this is something to do with java plug ins but I am not sure what to do. I am running windows vista and internet explorer does not work anyway so I use firefox.

An issue of the Java plugin indeed. What version do you have, pray tell? To discover what version you have do the following:

-Go to http://www.java.com
-Click on "Do I have Java?" and, if no automatic detection takes place, click the "Verify Installation" or similar button. Does it say you have an old version? If you have an older version then you likely need an update. You can update Java at that website.
