My DVD-RW drive keeps opening everytime I start up the laptop. I close it when widows is fully loaded and it seems ok after that. I have yet to check the drive out. I have defragged the laptop and the problem remains. I have powered down and restarted the laptop twice and the problem remains. Any thoughts? Is it windows or the CD Drive?

PS: I burned two CD-R and they both read fine on the drive so at least the CD part of the drive works and I am guessing there is no obvious problem with the drive.

If the drive has a driver loaded, you can try removing it and reinstalling it. If it is happening right when the computer is started, there shouldn't be anything from Windows interacting with it, so it is odd.

It is strange. Now it seems to happen later and later after startup. If I open and close the drive before it does it then it wont do it. I suspect the eject button has gotten a bit faulty and is acting sort of crazy.

Thanks for your time.

does anyone else use your laptop because they may have put a batch file in your start-up folder that keeps opening the drive and also it may have a loop command in it that is why the drive will keep opening.

To see if this is the problem click on the windows icon and go to all program's and look for a folder called start up and see what is in there if you don't know if you should remove anything from there post on here what is in there and ill be able to help from there.

I am the only person that uses this computer.
