Favorite Songs About.....Weed.....

Ooooo eeeeee, getting silly in here! Wouldn't have it any other way! And look how CLEAN you all look and how fresh you smell! Remember THAT thread?:upsidedow

Buck Washington: Save The Roach For Me
....it's all I'm asking of you....

Should we bump the smelly stoner thread just to be a bunch of pranksters?

Ummmmmmmm....I think we should let that thread die, while this one flourishes! :) Stay where the cool kids are, and bury that thread like a dead mongrel. ;)

And to do it, consider this, perhaps the prettiest song on the list so far....

Trio Garnica-Ascencio: La Marihuana

Not necessarily weed songs.....but certainly songs you might like when you're ON weed! :)

"Purple Haze" was a science fiction poem Jimi wrote. "Blue Jay Way", stoney though it is, was actually written in L.A. (the name of the street was Blue Jay Way), and there was a fog, and George Harrison was waiting for Derek Taylor to show up. And he wrote it on a harmonium that was in the house. So that song is actually quite literal.

HOWEVER........the song that precedes it on the album, "Flying".......well...why do you think they call it flying?....;)

The Beatles: Flying
Trivia about this highly psychedelic clip, directed by the Fabs themselves, the footage was actually shot for Kubrick's "Dr. Strangelove", and later used in "2001: A Space Oddessy" Around this time, Kubrick met with The Beatles and had talked about doing a version of "Lord of the Rings", Lennon as Golem, Harrison as Gandolf, and McCartney and Ringo as the two main hobbits. Now....didn't I just blow your mind? ;)

PS: Drugs and weed are NOT the same and I intentionally omitted cocaine songs, and acid songs, and heroin songs, drinking songs etc...but....if you want to open it up to them, who am I to stand in the way? I mean, who?!

LOLOLOL… not a bad list then!

On a side note, unless you put an aluminum ladder (with a hot woman on it) along the way, no you won’t be able to block the way, lol.

Isn't Blue Jay Way = LSD, though it appears to be about that street... You know, Beatles and their hideous drug references in their lyrics.

It's quite a shame that I can't differentiate from one substance, grass or powder to the other. But one (I mean me) can get 'high' on music like it's weed.

For blowing my mind with trivia, thanks. :D

You're thinking of "Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds" (LSD). "Blue Jay Way" would be BJW. Which sounds more pornographic than druggy, just sayin'....lol

Even though the sound of the record is practically dripping with lysergic evocations, the title came from Lennon's son Julian, who brought home a drawing he made of a classmate. When asked what the name of the drawing was, Julian replied "Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds", and Lennon wrote the song from there. Lennon and McCartney both freely acknowledged songs that were drug-inspired, including "A Day In The Life", from the same album (they even say "I get high with a little help from my friends", same album), Lennon expressed shock that it was an acronym was for LSD, and always credited his son's drawing and the inspiration of Lewis Carroll as being behind the lyrics to that particular song.

And now for something completely different.....

The Byrds: Eight Miles High
....still serving stoners after 50 years.....;)

Here's a couple of mine...

Excellent friend! "Hi Hi Hi" is one of my favorites, how could I forget? I saw him last year, I was gifted a ticket (who could afford it otherwise, pfft) and that song was the total highlight of the show, bar none. That, and "Junior's Farm".

Panama Red, too, another one, the New Riders. I was actually just listening to Garcia doing a cover of Dylan's "Going Going Gone", something that would bring a tear to even the most hardened of criminals.....man, the steel playing in this one is fantastic...I know that's definitely not Garcia, is that Sneeky Pete? Can't remember.

Great additions. Can't beat "Hi Hi Hi". In fact, I am going to play it right now, thanks to you!

But first.....let me take another hit...(sings: "of fresh aiiir!") lol! there's one!)

Bob Marley & The Wailers: Kaya
the less-famous 1973 version, which I think is better, stonier....though the stereo imaging is so severe, it's not good on headphones, only speakers....

Bob Marley & The Wailers: Easy Skanking
....speaking of "Kaya", here's the lead-off track from that 1978 album...

Ween "Pass the Bong"

I grew up hearing this song titled "Young Chou Lin," but whatever!

Chutney lips keep searching for you spaniel!

LOL! Hilarious! Brilliant. He's got the bonged-out vocal going! I've actually hung out with Ween, both really cool guys. In my mind we're smoking, but now I think about it, we weren't. But really cool.

Speaking of cool....

Big Star: In The Street
....i wish we had a joint sooooo bad....;)

Showing my age a bit, but there's also Walking In Space from the musical Hair.
Then the classic Marijuana by the Fugs. Long live the 60's. A ha ha ha ha ha.

Ah, The Fugs! Featuring the inimitately named Tuli Kupferberg! Trying saying THAT five times fast.....ok, now try saying that stoooooned!! ;)

No Shippy, I didn't see them at Terminal 5, this was about 10 years ago, can't really talk about it here, sorry!

Two settings of the same song....one by bluesman Jazz Gillum in 1938.....but by 1945 it had mutated into (what soon was known as) R&B...ie: early rock and roll.

Jazz Gillum: Reefer Head Woman

Buster Bennett Trio: Reefer Head Woman

It's not every day you see two country greats passing a joint to one another......RIP Merle!!!! Another big loss for 2016!

Willie Nelson & Merle Haggard: It's All Going To Pot

Willie Nelson: Roll Me Up And Smoke When I Die

Fraternity Of Man: Don't Bogart That Joint
...roll another one.....just like the other one!....

Ray Charles: Let's Go Get Stoned
more of a drinking song but still....."that's why I want to stop by on my way back home and say....let's go get stoned!"

Rosetta Howard: If You're A Viper

Fats Waller: The Reefer Song (You're A Viper)

*once again: the term "viper" was slang for someone who smoked...or "viped"

This one cracks me up.

I uh... Dunno how to embed. I's simple river folk.

Sterling!!!!! FANTASTIC! This I don't know!!!!!!! I am TINGLING listening to this.

Oh my god, bro, I will listen to this song the rest of my life. Fascinating.....fascinating! Thank you, thank you. And thanks again!

Here 'tis, friends, take ye this warning!

Mr. Sunshine & His Guitar Pickers: Marijuana, The Devil's Flower
courtesy of Sterling.....he's a viper, too! ;)

Perhaps Mr. Sunshine really meant to sing "Prescription Drugs!" ....;)

Had forgotten about both of these:

Muddy Waters: Champagne & Reefer

The Ink Spots: That Cat Is High

Pato Baton-Don't Sniff Coke......"I do not sniff the coke but I smoke, sensimilia"

Pato Baton-Don't Sniff Coke......"I do not sniff the coke but I smoke, sensimilia"

I didn't know that one! Thanks! Bopping to it now. Ah, ok, some British reggae! Cool. Ha, hilarious! Thanks!

I see you're from Connecticut....so it can only be..... NRBQ!

NRBQ: Wacky Tobacky

I wonder if it's sometimes a matter of interpretation. "You light up My Life" by Debbie Boone? She said it was about God but come on....

Not just about Weed but Ringo Starr's "The No No Song" has a verse about it.

LOL!!!!! Hey Mindy.....it's ok with me if you want to count "You Light Up My Life" as a weed song! I don't know how Debby, daughter of Pat Boone, would feel about it! But I won't tell if you don't! Are you gonna tell? I'm not gonna tell.....;)

And aaaah, Ringo....didn't think to include that one! Ringo did that song while he was at the height of his coke-snorting, weed-huffing and out-of-control alcoholism so don't believe him for a minute when you listen to that record! (Ringo is clean & sober now, however, so when you see him do it now, he means it! Good for him! Ringo looks great!)

So....taken with a grain of salt......in fact, make that three grains.....

Ringo Starr: The No No Song

Thanks, Mindy!
