I've seen 21 of them. I noticed a lack of horror movies on that list. :sadcry:

I've seen 34. I'm currently working on trying to watch the AFI Top 100 Tenth Anniversary Edition. I'm 78 movies in right now. About to watch City Lights sometime with the next day or so and noticed that one's on this list too.

Its got Bride of Frankenstein, Invasion of the Body Snatchers, King Kong, Psycho, and The Fly. That's more horror films than most top 100 lists have, also the point of this list is to cover every genre and I think these five films are a good representation of american horror from different time periods in american history.

No "To Kill a Mockingbird", "Grapes of Wrath", "Duck Soup", or "The Graduate"???

No "To Kill a Mockingbird", "Grapes of Wrath", "Duck Soup", or "The Graduate"???

Theres only so many movies you can fit in a top 100. It seems like what they were trying to go for is to include some obvious classics and mix them in with some underrated/overlooked ones. Also they wanted to include some great European, Asian, Spanish, and Indian films as well.

I was thinking the same thing, where is Cool Hand Luke, Fantasia, From Here to Eternity, Twelve Angry Men etc. My list of top 100 films would look very different. And that's OK, we like what we like. Oh, I've seen thirty on their list, might have missed a few.

To the OP, sorry. I don't mean to de-rail this thread into a debate about taste in films, so I'll bow out. :)

It's ok lmfao. A big thing they were trying to do in this list was to not be redundant for example you mentioned Fantasia but they already mentioned Pinnochio which covers disney during the 40's. Now it's completely subjective which one is the better film but Pinnochio is the one they went with. They even mentioned that this isn't a list of the most acclaimed movies but people should look at it as a 100 movies you should check out sometime. Seeing as how you've seen 30 check out the other 70 movies mentioned here, particularly The Decalougue because I think everyone needs to see all ten episodes of it before they die.

Well I've now officially seen 35 I guess I might as well clarify which ones I've seen.

I am ashamed to admit only 13, I must fix this.

Just because Time Magazine has 100 movies rated as the best doesn't necessarily mean they are, or that you would like them for that matter. I used to watch Siskel & Ebert when it was aired on WOSU and there had been times I went to see the movies they have a "thumbs up" on and it was horrible. And, there had been movies that I ventured on my own, thought were really good, only to find out later that they were given a "thumbs down".

2) Brazil (1985)
3) Chinatown (1974)

6) Dr. Strangelove: or How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb (1964)
7) Drunken Master II (1994)
8) E.T. The Extra Terrestrial (1982)
9) Finding Nemo (2003)
10) The Fly (1986)
11) The Godfather, Parts I and II (1972, 1974)

Yes this is true; however, there are some known classics on here that I have always wanted to see but never got around too. I found myself saying I would like to actually see that movie more than once as I read the list.

37/ Not great considering I'm a film student, but I have 32 more in my DVD collection that I haven't seen yet and will surely see before too long. I've never been one for viewing films just because such publications say that you "Should"...

ouch, 24. incidentally, today i drew the most perfect 24 i've ever made in my life. go me.
