I just wanted to take a moment to write about a technical issue that could inadvertently lead some of the newer, less experienced video producers astray.

I have ofter written about NOT shooting into a light source because that can lead to very poor video quality. Yet, in the first two clips of this title I have shot directly into a light source and have gotten great video. So let me explain the camera a light issue.

In all cases (including my own), shooting a camera into a light source will generate very poor quality video and may even result in making video where you really cannot see the action. This is because the camera's iris tries to mimic a human iris and is thus overwhelmed by the light in front of the camera. In order to overcome this *as I have in the first two videos of this title), you need to do two things.

1. Place an abundance of diffused light aimed at the subject.
2. In the video editor, apply color correction, stating with your luminance values.

It is because most newbie producers (and amateur videographers shooting home videos) don't have the lighting or have the technical color correction skills, that I advise DO NOT SHOOT INTO THE LIGHT.

If you take the time to master the additional lighting and color correction, as you can see from these first two previews of my Luna title, you can get sweet results.

BTW, the reason why I chose to shoot into the light this time is that I wanted to have the vibrant studio green contrasting with her skin and her red top to create vivid imagery. Without the umbrella light in the background, the green would look muddy rather than brilliant.
