1. Santogold

I played "Creator" by her on the Shizz the other night. After it played, I was threatened with a punch to the uterus and am sure there was much bitching in the chatroom. At any rate, she's a little similar to MIA and her latest album is pretty great.

2. Little Joy

New band, one part The Strokes, one part Los Hermanos. I'm not a huge fan of the Strokes, though I find them tolerable, but Little Joy is actually pretty good. You can listen to their entire album on their Myspace page. http://www.myspace.com/littlejoymusic

I loved the music, and the video was chock full of inadvertent greatness in a strange 1998'ish kinda way.

I didn't care much for the Strokes video, but only because I'm still failing miserably at tracking down the artist with a similar moniker who did a particular tune on the old End of Days movie soundtrack.

I haven't gotten around to the others yet, but intend to. I'm always up for new musics.

Not a bad selection, okay this is going to sound stupid of me, but I am fascinated by your name (Mairead), how do I pronounce it.

Bizarre rule. What the crap do you have against female singers?

i just don't care for them....it's a big world and i'm entitled to who i like and don't like..

also you will notice i didn't say all female...in fact i've always loved Madonna and her style..and i liked Pat Benetar..and i like the singer for Otep..but as a rule i prefer male bands..

It sounds pretty, its not like my name (John) which a more boring name you will never find, I've got my traditional second name which is Mayan (I'm of Nahuatl and Mayan ancestry) which is Hunab (Hoo Nahb) which people find hard to pronounce at times, but the Mayan name sounds better, I should actually use it more.

It's pronounced similar to what scavenger01 said. If you say the word "parade" out loud, but instead of a P, make it an M, that's my name.

Thanks for all the feedback, guys.

I really like people that are open minded and don't denounce an entire genre of music (or gender of singers) based on a few bad examples.

Santogold is not for everyone, I know, neither is Little Joy, I'm sure. But I figured Little Joy might get a bit more of a following considering it's basically The Strokes under a different name.

Hope you find the band you're looking for, Rick, and thanks Redman for the compliments. :)

i'm as open minded as they come..that has nothing to do with what i like and don't like..an opinion is just that..an opinion..and i'm entitled to that..

eeks forgot the disclaimer...warning...non sense post..if it's not your cup of tea..please feel free to pass me by...i thank you again..

I mean, you can say you tend to prefer male singers versus female, but there have been times were you've said it more like you can't stand female singers in general. And that's not really an opinion, because how can you form an opinion when you haven't heard all female singers?

hey i'm older than the hills remember? i've heard them all...lol

Is that your response? I guess this is a pointless discussion then. I agree everyone's entitled to their opinions and expression of views, but blanket generalizations? I'm not so sure.

o well yea i'm pointless...no i don't hate all female singers..but those i've heard i've not liked...and my sister sings..only female singers or voices i truly enjoy are opera singers..there that's an opinion..i don't wish to discuss hate and dislikes on a tickle forum..i gave an opinion...you wish to attack and call me names..that's your opinion...

I never called you names. I said the discussion was pointless as you seemed to dismiss what I said. You were the one calling people names, albeit yourself, so whatever.

I was just having a discussion and I appreciate your feedback to the thread and your opinions and apologize if there was some misunderstanding, but there's no need to get so defensive.

Okay, please to be ignoring my earlier uninformed comment on Little Joy. Having now sampled afew more of the links, I'm loving them bunches. I had only heard that one raggae'ish sample that tops the list at their MySpace page earlier in the thread.
