Hello there!

I was wondering what people thought were the sexiest songs ever written/performed. They don’t have to be explicitly sexual, obviously (I mean in terms of lyrical content)… It might just be the feel of the song, the way it sounds… who knows.

Some personal choices:

Wicked Game – Chris Isaak. I guess some people might consider that a bit of a naff choice, but I think it’s pretty sexy. ‘Sultry’ would be the word for it, I reckon. Sounds like Roy Orbison on viagra. lol

I’ve Got a Crush on You – George & Ira Gershwin. Now. I have to be very specific here; there are a lot of versions of this song, many of which I ain’t so keen on! lol I’m referring to the 1946 recording: Sarah Vaughan singing with George Treadwell’s Orchestra. I think she recorded another (strings-based) version of it a decade or so later, which has more of a romantic feel to it; but there’s something kinda raw and sensual about that 1946 version, I think. Particularly in the second half of the song when the tone changes somewhat. And that bit near the end: “Cos I-got a-crush my bay-bee (orgasmic chord change) on no-boh-dee eeeeeeeeeeellllse…” :bubbleheart: Ha. Love it.

And of course there are songs that are sexy in a more driving, testosterone-fuelled kinda way – Led Zeppelin’s Whole Lotta Love springs to mind. Queens of the Stone Age are – or were – pretty good at that kind of song, in my opinion. Misfit Love is a good ‘un. It’s a genre I like to think of as ‘filth-rock’. lol

Anyone? :)

Great topic!

Instantly springing to mind are the following:

I Put a Spell on You - Nina Simone version - not particularly sexy lyrically, but I think the lyrics could be interpreted with a certain sexual edge, but mainly it's the saxophone solo on this - it's the sexiest instrumental solo I can think of - just as you think it's reaching some sort of climax it switches key seamlessly and you're melted back in to that containing sexual pleasure, it then switches again without you even noticing and starts teasing to a point where you almost can't hear the sax, the whole time you're waiting for that climax to come again, longing for it, but hoping to delay it at the same time.... and then the vocal comes back in, interplaying with the sax and finally after she sings "I'm yours right now", there's a multiphonic honk from the sax, and wow, that's when it comes...yes!

Bruce Springsteen - Born to Run - just the energy of this record and the live performances, the notion of just running off with your crush, the two of you against the world and lyrics like "Just wrap your legs 'round these velvet rims and strap your hands 'cross my engines". Incidentally, I've always found that famous clip where Bruce invites Courtney Cox (pre-fame) on stage to dance with him on "Dancing in the Dark" very sexy - I don't find her sexy, but that song and that moment combined make for a sexy little snippet.

I agree with you about the Chris Isaak song - that to me is sexy in another different way - 'sultry' may well be the word....a song that I'd put in the same category of sexiness is 'Spooky' by Dusty Springfield.

I'll no doubt come back with some more when I've had a longer think!

Cheers

We shouldn't forget the music of our great composers either - Ravel's Bolero is often cited as one of the best pieces of music to make love to.
It's also got a very tricky trombone part. I never could quite master it, but I haven'tplayed it since I was a student - I like to think I'd give it a better shot now.

A good Tango can be pretty sexy as well

Wicked Game and Bolero - yes those are two that hit me. I have to look thru my listing of over 1000 of my favorites....I haven't been able to really listen to them in years now. No doubt, depending on what music type you like, there can be many candidates here. Oh no, not another Republican party kind of debate.....

Great topic!

I Put a Spell on You - Nina Simone version

Cheers, TTG. :)

Ah, good one. Yeah... that song's sexy in kind of a dark, brooding way. (I just had a proper listen to the original Screamin' Jay Hawkins version and couldn't decide whether it was sexy or not. It's kinda mental lol. But great.)

Love-making does?! Shit... Maybe that's where I've been going wrong. lol

Let's Get it On - Marvin Gaye

have a bit of silly smoke; put on earbuds/headphones and coitus to No Quarter - Led Zeppelin. An interesting intense exp if you let go.

Hmmm... just my opinion of course. Not in particular order, here's my list:

Need You Tonight – INXS <<< My top 1

Young Lust – Pink Floyd

Glory Box – Portishead

Humming - Portishead

In the Closet – Michael Jackson

Heart – shaped box - Nirvana

Since I've Been Loving You – Led Zep

Black Diamond – Kiss

Da Ya Think I’m sexy – Rod Stewart

Let’s Groove – Earth Wind & Fire

Satisfaction – Benny Benassi

Rapture - Blondie

The Lotus Eater - Opeth <<< makes me salivate hard, lol

And yeah, I agree with Wicked Game.

Thanks for the replies so far. :)

Let's Get it On - Marvin Gaye

Great song. And one that's been done a bit of a disservice by other mediums, I think. So often it's used ironically/for comic effect: set up an unlikely sexual scenario, press play and - hey presto! - you've got yourself a four-note musical punchline. Bah. Deserves better than that.

Sounds like it would be! Also put me in mind of another song: Sex & Drugs & Rock & Roll. lol

Young Lust – Pink Floyd

'Filth-prog' lol

Glory Box – Portishead

Ah, good one! That's another song I'd describe as 'sultry'.

Since I've Been Loving You – Led Zep

Yep. Though I would personally say Dazed and Confused is sexier. :D

Satisfaction – Benny Benassi

Indeed. Even if it didn't have those lyrics... The sound of that synth is just pure filth. lol

For sexy dancing = Blurred Lines - Robin Thicke
For romantic dancing = My Heart Will Go On - Celine Dion

Aaah... some more filth, lol! :D

Black Dog - Led Zep

Another one bites the Dust - Queen

God of Thunder - KISS

Black Magic Woman - Santana (not really filthy)

Damaged Goods - Gang of Four

Lullaby - Morte Macabre - necro filth lololol!

Layla (acoustic version) - Eric Clapton

Air of December - Edie Brickell (100% sultry)

The Look of Love (sultry jazz)

:D
