songs from the 70s

Is it ok to post modern covers of songs from that era? I really like this Dixie Chicks version of Landslide - it seems like they slowed it down a little bit, which I think really works

No, it's not alright. This cover didn't come out during the 70's. If my videos are taken down for being mistakenly placed in the wrong decade then so should yours. I'm surprised Chicago didn't report you but then again this is your site so I would guess that she looks at your post more objectively.

I agree but I let it go cuz I don't wanna get told off / banned by boss man

oh my god, the nits we pick, lol.

Any drummers out there? If you don't know this one, you're in for a treat! Great performance by Andy Newmark.

Sly & The Family Stone: In Time

But that's NOTHING compared to the drums and bass interplay in THIS one, holy smokes. (I think it's Clyde Stubbfield and Bootsy but don't quote me) One of the funkiest things you will EVER hear. . So tight you can bounce a dime off it. And not a hit......so now you can go impress your friends with your impeccable taste! lol

(James and Bobby Byrd's vocal duet is pretty amazing, also...)

James Brown: Since You've Been Gone

John Martyn - "May You Never"
1973

Wow, what a great, beautiful song and an impeccable performance. I didn't know this song. Thank you!!!!!!!

Here, let me repay the gift.....

Richard & Linda Thompson: A Heart Needs A Home

Here's a pair for ya:

"Say a praaaaayer for the Pretender", ha, havent heard this in years.

Interesting trivia about Jackson Browne: he wrote most of the songs on Nico's first solo album! There's two people you don't think of in the same sentence.

Similarly, a pre-fame Barry Manilow did all the piano playing and arrangements on Bette Middler's first album, "The Divine Ms. M." . Love her sultry version of Bobby Freeman's "Do You Wanna Dance?"

I like that version of the song. Very classy.

I find this one to be classy too (from '72 I believe):

The B52s - Rock Lobster

I love this song, and especially this particular performance. They all look so cool, and the way Fred Schneider dances has a strange physicality that I can't quite define but that I find really compelling.

Always loved "Rock Lobster"! Remember seeing it on SNL or "Fridays" (the SNL rip off) back in the day and laughing my ass off with my Dad.....and at the same time, both of us really digging it! It was totally garage and retro....yet completely current with the punk and new wave scenes.

"Rock Lobster" was almost like prog-garage!

What's great about the video is that it was actually a live performance, as opposed to just lip syncing to the record.

Here's another classic from their first album:

The B52s: Dance This Mess Around

The Spinners - "I'll Be There" (1973) video is a live performance from Soul Train

Jeremy Spencer Band - "Cool Breeze" (1979) I am pretty sure I'd heard this song before, but I think recently noticed it during a scene in Mindhunter between characters Dr. Wendy Carr and Kay Manz

Right now THE 70s track of the moment is this wild Serge Gainsbourg track from 1971 in which Jane Birkin gets tickled mid-way through. (according to Jane herself, the ticklish laughter was recorded in a hotel room, the tape recorder hidden under the bed). This was posted in the Mainstream section recently, and I can't stop listening to it, the bass is so fucking great..........and so is Jane!!!!!!!!

Serge Gainsbourg (with Jane Birkin): En Melody
