A band that's reinvented themselves over and over, done everything from sweeping epics to prog classics to ska-influenced rhythms to grungy driven angst to...well, just about everything....with three musicians generally regarded as the best at thier instruments, influencing a good number of the bands that are even in this challenge....
Or a band that's worked the same four chords for 35 years?
Hmmmm.....
I think I'll stick with Rush on this one.
I loved me sum AC/DC, but after Bon Scott passed on, the band was never the same. I mean, come on....how many times can you record Back in Black and call it a new album?
If you leave it up to a choice between those two bands, then I'd have to heartily agree with you that it would be Rush.
When Geddy Lee (sp?) sang Take Off to the Great White North for Bob and Doug McKenzie (characters from SCTV), that was a classic time from television history.
Rush wins this one, hands down. Not that I don't like AC/DC, but as Dave stated above, their music has been the same riffs for years. Hell, I could probably step in as their drummer and no one would notice the difference.
Sorry, Dave, but nobody can pit AC/DC up against anyone and possibly win, in my humble opinion.
Of course, you have to understand that you are reading the post of someone with the musical ear of a gangrenous, borderline-retarded gnat. However, I still stand by my fave Aussie (or any band, for that matter) band, regardless.
Although Geddy Lee's vocals can get a bit trying after a while, Rush is an amazing band. Ac/Dc rocks hard...but, I'll give this to Rush. On another note, how did the Doors beat Genesis? If you're talking post-Gabriel Genesis, I understand, but Gabriel era Genesis was musical majesty.
While Rush has been there and changed and explored their style, I had to vote AC/DC. I grew up on them and just can't go against them. I think the fact that they have stuck to their guns on their style over the years and always come up with original and "fun" songs is what will win this one for them.
First one of these polls without a clear-cut winner....
But my gut says to go with Rush. Nothing against AC/DC - they did a lot for metal and hard rock. But if I go with overall contribution to classic rock, Rush is the correct answer.
