The first is a little publicized incident wherein some bumbling counterfeiters try to steal the corpse of Abraham Lincoln, so that they can hold it for ransom and the pardon of an imprisoned member of their gang, and the second is the even less well known early childhood of Phoebe Ann Mosey (to be "Annie Oakley"), and two years in which she was held as practically a slave to an abusive family she would never later in life call by name, but would describe them only ominously as "The Wolves".
The former strikes me as good fodder for comedy, and the latter a drama, perhaps with a twist.
I was just out to Greenville, Ohio a few weeks ago to do some research on Annie (right before Tortuga's munch). I want to see if I can cobble together some worthwhile derivative works through embellishing on history, and filling in the numerous gaps with the bits I want to have had happen... 🙂

As far as the history, You'd be surprised what I follow. I tend to go nuts over WW II, while other people in class would be going nuts over the local football game.I would assume that you would have studied German, being such a close neighbor.
