  • Oh no,neither of them are mentioned in the book. They were but cogs in a great wheel but i am proud of their service. The Pacific Theater is often overlooked even here with a few exceptions.

My great great grandfather was an officer in the 7th Missouri Cavalry during our Civil War.We have two diaries he kept during the war,and until the early 1960's had his sword and pistol until they were lost in a house fire.🙁
There is never enough time to read all the books we would like sigh..Rommel was an honorable man and one of the few who stood up to Hitler. And he paid for it with his life.Had Hitler listened to him the outcome of the war might have been very different.
Rommel is an interesting character.I have not read that much about him.Suggestions are welcome.🙂

I recommend Patton:A Genius For War by Carlos D'Estes and American Ceasar,a bio of Douglas MacArthur by William Manchester.I love everything he ever wrote.See also Goodby Darkness,Manchesters account of his service with the Marine Corps in WWII.
Indeed he was.I have never read a definative bio about him.I'm sure one must have been published.Just a bit of trivia,i was 21 when he died in 1976.He must have been a tough old bird.🙂
You have all summer, get to reading.I wish i had that luxury.😛 I will be checking out that book, sounds like a great read.😀

Yeah,Monty and Patton hated each other. There were plenty of conflicts between the Americans and British during the war.Eisenhower did a brilliant job.He never commanded combat troops during his career.Very unusual for someone who attained his position.
Massie is one of my favorite authors. It's a great read.😀 Your suggestion sounds interesting, that is new to me.One of the best books about the Eastern Front i have ever read is The Forgotten Soldier by Guy Sajer.

Some historians question it's authenticity. All i can say is the guy lived through this and made some mistakes when he wrote the book or he is one hell of a writer of fiction.I'm going with the former.🙂
If you have never read this, and i imagine you have, pick up a copy of Peter the Great:His Life and World by Robert Massie.😀
Yeah,he had Peter by the balls after Narva and let him off the hook. And the invasion of Poland was an even bigger mistake.
Most people feel that way about where they live.I dare say the majority of people in San Antonio have never visited the Alamo. And people who live in Philadelphia drive by Independence Hall without a second thought. When i saw it for the first time it sent shivers up my spine despite the heat and humidity.

From what i have read Charles sacrificed several generations of men and left Sweden pretty much bankrupt by the time he died.I doubt the common people mourned much when he was killed.

Still, his battles with Peter the Great are epic stuff for us geeks.🙂
I would not mind visiting Sweden someday.Your Charles XII was quite an interesting character.🙂
86?Hah!It has been 100+ here 19 of the last 21 days.Right now it's 104.86 would be a cold front.I have forgotten what rain looks like.
Not every Canadian is obsessed with hockey, y'know. Just like I'm sure not every Swede is a big socialist pirate with a bushy red beard. 😛
I'm so happy i don't know if i should shit or go blind.*Indicate sarcasm here*

    It's Texas slang.🙂
*blinks* Ok....not sure I followed all of that, but I'm good. Had a pretty great weekend, which had me in a good mood. It got brought down a bit about 30 minutes ago, but I'm still ok I guess. Have a good 4th?
