I just heard the news on (yet another) personal friend in my vanilla life: heart attack. I'm worried about something; my weight. Younger readers can't understand this fear. Believe me young'uns, in a decade or two you will understand it very well. It's very quiet and very subtle. There is no adreneline involved, it's not like a knock on the door or anything.

It's a reminder about the reality of statistics in individual health. Oh yeah, before the lectures start, let's make sure that everybody here reads this: vitamins, exercise, and sensible eating are all part and parcel of my regular life.

I simply can't ingore my weight, nor can I help but ignore the presence of the TMF during the past six months.

So now for the question of questions: Conincidence ? Spurious ? Causative ? Tangential ?

I am so afraid that this observation could be an attempt to blame Peter while Paul deserves the fine. There are so many ninny-nannies who will quickly say, "See there, if you wouldn't spend your time on the TMF, you would...." blabbity blabberty blah.

I also know (or at least believe quite strongly) from my own personal past experience that when tickling is in my life, everything goes better.

Tickling is not in my life right now.

E-mail will be welcome for anyone who doesn't want to go public. As for everyone else, I'll bet I'm not the only one with these worries. If it isn't weight, it could be sleeping (which just happens to be my second most disrupted health problem right now), or smoking, or spending, perhaps even drinking or other chemicals.

I hope I don't sound like the tickling evangelist, but I'm convinced that the role of tickling really is that important in the lives of people here. I am convinced that it is a positive force which brings great benefits; not the least of which are emotional, which in turn spill over into the physical and social and business realms. I'll write more on this depending on how the feedback goes. I may or may not be able to check in with the TMF again until the end of next week.

Whatever, okay, whatever. Something's got to change. Identifying the right change to make is every bit as important as (no, it's more important than) actually making the change.

Oh yeah, is this thread helping anybody else besides me ?

In any case, repression and frustration don't help anyone, so if tickling is your ticket to happiness (so to speak), I would say go for it 🙂

I love TMF partly because my real-life tickling is quite limited; I only have one lee, and sporadic and occasional lers who don't really get into it. TMF helps me during such "lean" times 🙂

TMF and Fitness

I think the TMF is good for your health. I lost ten pounds since I found this place.

This is what has worked for me; no guarantee it will be right for others.

To incorporate more exercise in your daily routines, without taking more time devoted to exercise alone, do two things:

Walk (instead of driving or riding a bus or subway) when you are going 1/2 mile or less. Walk briskly. (Here, with NY City traffic, you may even arrive sooner than if you took the bus.)

Do not use elevators for six floors or less. Walk the staircase.

The TMF Health Plan

It's more for mental health than physical, unless you're taking a typing course....

Set aside some time for physical activities that you enjoy at least 3 times a week, and stop eating so much bread and processed sugar.....at least until they show why you should do the exact opposite in the next Surgeon Generals Report. 🙄 Q

Water. Drink water people. Get rid of beer (carbonated piss), limit your sodas to maybe 3 a week, take half the sugar out of your iced tea. NO FRIES! NO fast food if you can help it. Chicken instead of beef.

With that said, get someone to tickle you once a day.....for your sanity after giving up all those goodies!

P50-,
*hug* I understand your pain.. I too am on a continuing battle with my weight.. I also take birth control pills and antidepressants , which adds to things..
I know I may get flamed but.. for me a mdoerately low carb diet based off Dr Atkins New Diet Revolution was what started the weight loss ball rolling... My advise is to get and read the book, then you can make your own diet plan off of that....
First off tho, if possible get rid of empty calorie snack foods, useless carbs(like desserts, chips, white bread, ect) soda ect. Even if you have a family, they too will benefit from this. As other posters said, give up processed or refined foods, and ESP SUGAR AND WHITE FLOUR!!!! Go shopping if you can and replace these foods with fruits, non-starchy veggies(esp green ones) lean meats, low fat cheeses, whole grain flour and bread. Drink 64 oz of water a day for a start..if you don't like plain water.. flavour it with lemon.. try to cut down on the soda(even diet pop, which tricks your body into thinking it's taking in sugar and making you heavier) .

As far as exercise, start small. Even a five minute walk is beter than nothing. Walking is good too, because esp if you do it alone, it gives you time to think, to dream, to plan.

If you want to talk to someone who's been there and tries to fight the good fight every day, e-mail me @ [email protected].
Please try to hang in there and not get discouraged.. a lot of us know what you're going thru.

Hm...

Slim down on the fat foods....drink water...and MOVE!! Just by dancing, I have lost close to 30 pounds in maybe 5 months....Sounds silly, but it is something that is really fun to do, and it is also healthy...hope this helps.

If you are concerned about the possibility of having a heart attack the best thing to do is to talk to your doctor about managing your risk factors. Risk factors for coronary heart disease include, but are not limited to:

1.) Smoking
2.) High serum levels of low density cholesterol and triglycerides
3.) Uncontrolled high blood pressure
4.) Obesity (particularly abdominal obesity)

There have been some very good suggestions posted in this thread for diet and exercise. Lowering your overall intake of carbohydrates is the fastest way to lose weight, however you have to remember one simple thing. Calories taken in still have to be less than calories expended if you expect to lose weight, so exercise is very important.

Now to keep this post on topic 🙂 Anything that brings you pleasure and improves your mood that doesn't increase your risk factors for heart disease (or other health problems)is good for your health. I think tickling certainly falls in that catagory.

Thank you MistressValerie, Novus... for answers which were straight-on-topic. I thank you both, especially for reading at least until the 8th sentence in the original post.

Not to sound like a tactillian ,but...

Tickling can be christmas on the forth of july!!! The primal basic necessity it stems from is "that human touch" ! Gotta have it!

or,at least,much healthier with it!

Dear Celt...

I'm actually going through some similar things as you! I pasted your advice/experinces to go over it more when I get the chance. Oh, but all those good things you cut out of your diet....!

(hope to see you soon!)

Krokus - your advice makes total sense! Dancing - it's so simple! I'm on it.....

Actually, there was a lot of good stuff here.....

I totally agree with you here, Ma'am. 😉

As far as it preventing a heart attack, I must remind everyone that GuitarPeteTklr, just had one 2 weeks ago and he is one of the most active ticklers here. I know, he is MY tickler. 😀

Diet, exercise, stress management. Those things prevent heart attacks.

Actually, I suppose that it might be wise to be careful about getting overly excited during tickling ... someone who already has a problem like uncontrolled high blood pressure or unstable angina might be at risk. The key is to enjoy ticking as an emotional release and pleasure, but not to get so carried away with physical excitement as to get sick.

Happy and healthy tickling,

I have to say the answer to weight problems is:

EXERCISE!!!

At least 20 minutes of cardio a day at least three times a week!
A good ten-twenty minutes of stretching everyday
Weight training plan for toning and muscularity!

A diet is important, but w/o exercise it's pointless!

Tickle yourself healthy

Tickling is verrry healthy in so many ways; the laughter and wriggling increases oxygen, stimulates essential brain chemicals, speeds metabolism, builds muscle & flexibility, reduces stress, and encourages social interaction!
I encourage you to get as much into your life as possible, tickling physically, and/or virtual tickling in the chat room.

The Rib-Mistress! (Ad parody)

This is a copy of a whimsical ad I posted for the Rib-Mistress, the tickling companion to the Ab-Mistress (which is a trampling abdominal workout intended to spoof those late-night Ab-Jerk commercials, etc.) In this ad, I told of the "health benefits" of being tickled ... I hope you all enjoy it (at least a little, lol).

The Rib-Mistress!

The Ab-Mistress is the world's best system for conditioning your tummy, but what if you also need to improve the circulation in your upper body? Meet the Ab-Mistress' helper -- the Rib-Mistress!

This magnificent feat of engineering resembles the famous Ab-Mistress but uses ten flexible fingers to apply just the right amount of gentle stimulation to your sensitive upper body areas -- ribs, sides, waist, and underarms as well as your tummy. Once you lay back on the soft foam platform, a safety harness holds you firmly in place while the Rib-Mistress goes to work. Those delicate fingers will explore every hidden crevice and corner of your body, places you've never let anyone touch because they are so ticklish! But the Rib-Mistress doesn't care -- she knows it's good for you, and she will gently but resolutely persist in stimulationg those under-worked small muscles, resulting in improved blood flow to the skin!

After an hour, you'll be panting for breath, but laughing with delight because it's so much FUN (at least it is for the Rib-Mistress!). In fact, we guarantee that you'll laugh harder than you ever have before and raise your endorphin level sky-high!

I need one!!

Valerie, what a wonderful idea!! This is an exercise program that I'd never get tired of.
Talk about motivation! LOL!
Love, Ticklebutton 😛

Thanks, Ticklebutton 🙂 I apologize for taking the thread a wee bit off topic, but since it was turning into a cardio-vascular seminar anyway ...

Love and laughter,

a trick my couson did was that he never ate after 6pm.if he eer got hungry, he woulddrink a soda(which would cut your meal by more than half). you could drink anything else too,but preferably water. my cousin ened up losing 20 pounds in that month alone.
i am now tryin to only drink as both breakfast and lunch, and then eat light foods at night(tuna and salads for example).it would shrink the stomach, and you wouldbe able to function on less food.
is that any good?

Truthfully, I thought you were dropping hints to the other members in a polite attempt to get them to stay on topic.

but since it was turning into a cardio-vascular seminar anyway ...

I was unaware that the TMF membership included Jenny Craig, Richard Simmons, and so many degreed nutritionists amd other medical experts.

MistressValerie, (and a couple of others) thank you for reading the original post.

I'm confused. You also wrote in your original thread. "I'm worried about something; my weight." If sensible eating and exercise are already part of your life, why are you worried about your weight?

BlackRook wrote: If sensible eating and exercise are already part of your life, why are you worried about your weight?

Because it has increased in spite of good eating and exercise.

Do you think Al Gore hit the ice cream and blobbed out in front of the TV after the election ? Honestly I don't, but I think I understand a little about him. Not a lot, but a little.

While it is not a weight loss regimen per se,get a copy of the ADA diet for diabetics. It places limits on sugar intake and can result in weight loss.
