To the best of my knowledge, all of the Red/Orange/Whatever Feathers in the TMF are all American. When I get my 1st Degree Red Feather in about 70 posts time will I be the first un-American and more importantly, the first Brit to be awarded it?

Hal is decidely German, and I'm counting dvnc as Canadian, in all the ways that count, at least. You m-a-y be our first Brit, not really sure..if so, you will be under tremendous pressure to uphold the Red Feather standards for your entire island...woohoo...good luck! Q

Indeed we should mate, but at least when we put the useless arse of Ferdinand back on the throne we had control over the Spanish throne for the next 50 years or so. But I guess we should remember that we saved France's arse two times and they still jumped into bed with Germany in the EU. I guess they decided that if they were gonna be raped, they might as well get married. 😀

....and lets not forget the best fighting perfomance put up by the french in WW2 was in north africa against us!!! they also refused to send their war ships over to England after the fall of France, the result of which was an RAF away win at Oran.

Hmmmm, I seem to remember they were so slow in evacuating their fleet that we had to sink the damn thing to stop the sausage-noshers from getting their hands on it.
However you do have to give one thing up to the French. They have a unique army because it's the only one in the world with sunburnt armpits and tanks that have a reverse gear.

And France is certainly not the only promiscuous country when it comes to allies: Wasn't it the British who coined the phrase 'Divide and Rule' (so adeptly used in India, for example); Russia was an ally with Britain and USA; the USA sided with the Taliban (during the Russian invasion in Afghanistan) as well as an ally of Saddam (during his war with Iran). Who is going to throw the first stone? 🙄

So it was Hal, so it was. And indeed we do pick and choose our allies, but not usually because we're afraid of them rodgering us senseless the second our back is turned 😀 but because we're cynical buggers as a nation and like to play the field. But what has being on the side of Russia during the second world war and the Afghanis during the russian invasion, got to do with "divide and conquer"? If the two sides were potential allies of each other and we were trying to keep them apart, I could've understood it, but they were'nt.
Mind you I hear that these days the French are becoming a force to be reckoned with. They kicked the arses of quite a few exotic parrots and fish when the let off that nuke in the ocean.

does anyone remember that it was the good old germans who turned loose lennin! they had him return to russia to get the commie revolution going full swing. the idea was that the russian government would need to sue for a seperate peace, so it could consentrate on the comunist uprising.... ah, thank you kaiser wilhelm.
and big jim. one of the main reasons the french fought so well against the americans, and british, was that they were using the forign leigon against us! which at the time was around 50% german, lol. the battle of oran when the u.s. landed was kept a secret for a long time. they didn't want the america public to know what shits the french were! that was a very blood battle.
as far as the e.u. goes, i thought the germans didn't want it any more than the british? at least thats what a friend of mine, from germany told me.

Yes, Steve, I know that Lenin was smuggled into Russia from his Swiss exile by the Germans. But turning loose revolutions and revolutionaries is a frequently used political move. The USA instigated a royalist revolution when Mossadegh nationalized the oil industry in Iran, and helped to reinstall Shah Reza Pahlevi, for example. I guess this tactics was used by most countries, sometimes in history.
The German opinions on the EU are split. No exact percentages available though. I think the majority of intellectual Germans is pro-EU, and the adversaries are mostly found in the less-educated circles. But the EU is widely supported by businessmen and the industry. Just my € 0.02 ...

I think it was Talleyrand who said that nations have neither permanent friends nor permanent enemies - they have permanent INTERESTS. Then again, might have been Bismarck. Hal probably knows. As an explanation for shifting alliances, this one is better than most.
BTW red indian, it was the Royal Navy that attacked the French Fleet at Oran. Found out that "Dunkerque" was faster than "Hood" (got away) but it was otherwise pretty much a clean sweep for the RN.
