Talking about WUV and marmalade is pollution? 🙄 I suppose the ever constant flame wars is cerebral? I suppose arguing the same points over and over again until the keys on your keyboard burst into flames is intellectual? If that floats your boat though more power to you. I am quite content in my role as the Prince of "Pollution". Might I humbly suggest however:

Hal and I rarely see eye to eye,and we may not even like each other in real life.

However,there is one point where I have to take up his side.

In his opening post,he requested serious replies.Is that request too hard to honor?

Alot of the arguing in GenDis comes from widely varied views, controversial topics,and differing personalities.In my opinion, anyone who expects calm, cordial,and/or completely respectful dialog
in every case is fooling himself or herself. Life isn't one great big courteous debate society.

I've shown disrespect to numerous posts and posters alike, and have seen it in return.Maybe a little respect on one simple request isn't too much to ask.

Incidentally,I don't have a strong opinion on the "nonsense" threads, since I only get involved every so often. Many of them seem to be a waste to me, but if Jeff and the moderators don't mind, then I'll live with them,ignore them,reply,whatever.
 
Thanks for your support, shark. I guess I've given up hope for some people, so it's good to know that there are voices of reason out there as well.
 
I'm not surprised to see sillyness here. It was invoked. This thread's not about anything but the question of validity of such. It'd be one-sided without.

Personally, the volume of threads, and not the size of each, is the only thing about which I'm curious. We've had a dozen US political discussion at once, several terrorism threads at once, etc. This is General Discussion in a Tickling forum. Anything that ain't Tickling ends up here, from the difficult to the ridiculous, within the scope of the rules. No worries.

I do dig, though, where the volume will tire one who seeks to easily find what will otherwise require calling up a second page. I think those with high-speed connections forget what a pain that is for those on a phone-line.

Sympathies, man. Hopefully, the rest of us reasonably silly folk will contain ourselves to a few threads at once, such that a page isn't swollen with sillyness. Often.

To answer shark I think it was not the request which cause me not to honor it but the tone of the request. Perhaps this was not intentional but I sensed it was there. The tone was all the happy, silly nonsense threads are just trash and we are all idiots for posting in them. Thats the feeling I got and I'm sorry that just brings out my very sarcastic side. Perhaps if Hal dropped the "cerebral pollution" attitude I would have been more likely to honor his request. In any case I'm sorry if my silliness offended anyone.

There have been a lot of threads here which I did not particularly like but I did not say they should not exist. If you don't like it, don't post in it. You want serious threads then start them. Not really a big problem here as I see it. Anyway this is my final comment on the issue. I will now leave it so you can resume the very serious discussion of silly things.🙄
 
Sorry to contradict you, kurchatovium: My original post didn't contain any offensive language, just a few questions I thought valid. My "cerebral pollution" remark didn't turn up before the thread had already been hijacked into the all-penetrating silliness, and only because I felt offended by the likes of you not honoring my request.

Besides, I didn't complain about the mere existence of such threads. They are valid, too, and they serve their purpose. What irritated me was the sheer number of them.

I request the mods to close this thread now.
 
Sorry Hal to contradict your contradiction but I felt your tone was pervasive from the very start. If that was not your intent I am sorry.

Also one can start has many seriuos threads as you like you just click the little buttton that says star a new thread. If silly ones are more poppular now that is not my problem.
