This is about my situation with Aflac.. but.. as the other thread is clogged up.. I'll start a new one.

I just heard from Jay.,.

He wants me to come in to the office on Thursday.. to sign my contract..

I will be joining Aflac.. and finally.. all my hard work is going to be rewarded.

I thank everyone who supported me through this situation.

Mom, I wish I could hug you. I know you can see. I'm going to work just as hard as an agent, as I did to become an agent, and I know I'm going to make you proud.

AFLAC once visited my former company and I must say I was impressed with their presentation. They were giving away free toy ducks too. Sadly I did not get a duck 🙁 ( 😉 😛 )

Great advertising campaign for sure. Better then the Geico gecko thingie I think. The stuffed duck was adorable too which is why I wanted one 😛

Nope! Not at all. I really hope your back has straightened up, your walk has a little more pep, and your chest sticks out because this should be the ultimate confidence boost. You are now employed! And that's an extremely important detail when it comes to meeting and dating women. I assure you...no one cares about the duck. I think you've just made the most concrete step towards that life you want. Congrats man.

Don't forget, it's not over yet. You still have tons of work left....but this is a great milestone.

AFLAC offers, at least last I heard ,which was about 14 years ago. A variety of insurance plans. You could even get cancer insurance or prostate insurance. In a sense they do offer true catastrophic health insurance. Rather then just a health insurance policy with a large deductible I thought that was pretty unique at the time. Not sure how unique it is now.

All I really feel is pride. As everyone knows, I'm a very.. intense person. When I first got the e-mail from Jay, asking me to sign up, it was just before my beloved Jim Gardner 6pm news. I had a huge smile on my face during that whole show, for many reasons. The feeling was "I worked so hard, and finally I'm going to get what I want.. something I busted my ass to achieve".

This is a tremendous confidence boost, to be sure. I want to stay on an even keel. I'd be lying though, if I didn't say this.. I feel the happiest now, that I have since the day in October 2011 that two Drs in NJ told me that my beloved mom was cancer free. I hope and pray that my situation with Aflac works out far better than my mom's diagnosis that day did.

kurch, thank you for letting me know. I'm embarrassed to admit, I didn't know that.. for this reason.,.

All of the training I've gone through so far.., was just online and in class training to pass the NY state exam.

I was told.. at least right after I passed the exam.. that I have to go to "Sales School". It hasn't been explained to me in detail yet... However,. I'm sure they will discuss, and educate me, on the different types of plans you discussed after I sign.

My dad, and aunt the artist, for all I complain about them, were beaming with pride when I just spoke to them on the phone. These are people that are in their early 70s, and have worked since teenage years, non stop. They are very happy for me.

I maybe shouldn't post this.. but.. I guess it doesn't really matter.

As anyone might imagine.. I'm feeling tense and jumpy.. So,.. I did something that I don't usually do on weekdays anymore, and was a very bad boy today. I paid a visit to the casino.

I held my own, winning many races, and broke just about even. I would have won.. but put a bit too much into the slots.

After that, I went to see Maria, for what might be the last time. She works only days,. and claims she's leaving in Feb. I don't know when I'm starting work. It was a bit.. awkward.

Hopefully, all goes as planned, and tomorrow is the first day of the rest of my life. As much as I will miss Maria.. I also know that my opportunity to have friendship, and relationship with another kind woman, will be there once I have the position at Aflac.

I went for my meeting today..

As didn't surprise me, this is a 100% commission based business, which is a concern, because I need to earn money. They also told me that I have to do it "Full Time" to be successful. The goal is to gather large groups of people.. to make as many sales as possible. I have to first read a packet, then go for a meeting on Monday, after which I have to attend a Sales School in early Feb. I will be getting my license after my bday. They told me not to file for it before then because, conceivably, the state could issue it to me for a few days, and then require me to get a new one. I cant even approach people about sales until I have my license in hand.

I'm going to give this a chance. I worked very hard to achieve this license, and deserve the chance. In fact, when I was at the office today, I ran into the review teacher, Ed, and he told me he was thrilled for me.

I really like the people I'm working with. Hopefully, with persistence, I can become successful at something I've worked so hard to achieve.

If I may offer a suggestion. "How to Win Friends and Influence People" is a good book for anyone but I think especially those in sales. Its an old book written by Dale Carnegie but a classic I think.

I have known sales people even a few used car salesmen. All of them say the worst situation is to be a salesperson at a company with a bad product. I think the fact that Aflac is a big company and offers a good product will help you lots. 😀

GQ, for me to work at a place that has base salary, it wouldn't be in insurance. Yes, I know commission sales is a very tough business. I expressed that to the people I saw today, and my dad. My dad, surprisingly, told me he feels I have to give this a shot. I still have art work I can sell, that I've been trying to, but hasn't sold yet. If I could sell that, it would definitely last me for much of the rest of this year, without having to dig into my savings.

Thanks for the book suggestion, kurch. I';ll go to the Barnes and Noble on Austin St, and look for it tomorrow.

Kurch, I hope what you say about Aflac being a big company with a good product helping me. I think I wasn't successful in my other business, Market America, because, that was like Amway, and, it had the stigma of "Network Marketing"

Insurance is a product that many people need

I haven't read it yet, because I fell asleep when I came home from the meeting.. They gave me a whole packet that I have to start reading tomorrow, about "How to sell'

Listed in the packet is every reason an agent will get negative feedback from a potential client, and how the agent is supposed to attempt to "Persuade" the person they are trying to sell to, into buying the insurance. I want to read it all when I'm fresh and can absorb it.

I've earned the right to give this a shot, with as hard as I worked to pass the licensing exam. I cant even approach anyone until I get my license.. so.. until then.. I'll read through the material, attend the sales meeting on Monday, and just work at learning how to sell.

The funny thing, although it didn't seem funny to me, with as hard as I worked..

Jay and the other guys told me today, that.. I wont be using any of what I learned to pass the test. That material is strictly to pass the exams and state finals. It pissed me off in a way, because of how hard I worked on it, but, I know we cant control what we're asked by our employers to use, to be successful at our work.
