This doesn't sound good at all. Let's all hope the doctors can clear up this infection quickly and that Alex will be back on his feet soon.

I saw some Redskins themed twitter pages start reporting on this about 48 hours ago, and I was hoping that these were just unconfirmed rumors. Right now, Smith needs to forget about playing and just focus on keeping his leg. Watching the offense this season did frustrate me at times, but Smith was doing what we brought him to DC to do. Win games and limit turnovers. And the team really loved him. But as I said, football should be the last thing on his mind.


I still remember his time in San Fran. Basically 6 years of nothing. I still remember the game in 2010 when San Fran played against Philly, and literally the entire stadium was calling for Smiths head and demanding the backup be put in. He could've easily given up during that time, but he kept working and eventually got in going in 2011. I think it says something about him that they kept him for all those years. He's also lost is starting job twice, and both times it was during times where he was playing well. He lost it in 2012 to Kaepernick due to injury, and last season he played with Pat Mahomes right behind him, knowing the whole time that at seasons end he was gonna be gone so Pat could take over.

My father had Cancer and had surgery to remove it. Days later he a contacted a deadly infection and Doctors were in biohazard suits and took him to the bottom floor of the main hospital for terminal patients with deadly infections and diseases because they didn't know if he was going to die because he had a fatal disease. Through the faith of the Good Lord, my father lived. Health is more important than football and a limb. I pray Alex Smith recovers and lives and keeps his leg because football is in a distant rear view mirror. After going through multiple leg surgeries myself I realize how blessed I am that I never developed any infections. I have more knee surgeries to go myself in years time and pray they go in my favor and I pray Alex Smith has a speedy recovery. Even if he never plays football again, I pray he recovers fully for his and his family's sake.

Yeah, some guys in that position might be bitter and resentful. Alex did everything he could to help Mahomes get up to speed so he could take over this season. That tells us a lot about his character. First class all the way.

Heard this this morning on Get Up, terrible thing to happen to such a good guy and class act. Here's hoping the doctors can get in there and clear up the infection and he can get back on the road to recovery.

Everyone who has posted here has it correct, Alex in not a spiteful or vengeful person. He caught a bad break in San Fran, and then did everything in his power to mentor Patrick Mahomes knowing he was grooming him to be his replacement. His years in KC were good ones. Wishing him nothing but the best in the future, whatever it may hold.

Heard on GMFB this morning that Smith has had not only had to have a half dozen procedures done since the injury, but the implants they originally put in to repair his leg had to be taken out because those got infected as well.

This isn't the news any of us wanted to hear. I feel so bad for Alex.

Finally, some good news. Alex is home and seems to be doing much better. Whatever his future holds I wish him the best.
