Anti-American Politics in America

the only reason for the military is to force open global markets for economic extraction of the third world resources, whether those resources be labor, environmental degradation, or raw materials. this extraction has been brutal costing millions of lives and millions more were tortured and imprisoned, all at the hands of the military industrial complex.

as for the "mass will of the people" which you seem to be so condesending about, the labor movement abolished child labor and gave u the weekend, the civil rights movement won equal rights under the law, the 68 revolutions in prague and paris almost brought those political regimes to an end, the list is endless. read your history, its a common theme.

as for the problem of world stavation and malnutrition, this is cause majorly by international banking institutions, which are dominated by US interests. ever day 100million dollars leaves the poor countries and flows into the US. in what is laughably called debt repayment. So you have nations like indonesia and the phillipines spending 4xs their health budget paying back money to the US. so the people lack adaquate medical care and food.

this debt is imposed and unjust. one example, indonesia. the cia stages a coup in 65 brings fascist dictator suharto to power, the IMF(international banking controlled by US) lends him billions, he steals half of it, and uses the rest to kill a million + of his people(buying arms from the US). So in a nutshell, the US gives money to the dictator, he steals half of it, puts the other half back into the hands of us weapons firms, kills innocent people, than the origional debt is being paid back by the poor. which continues today even after the recent fall of the elderly suharto.

for more info www.globalizethis.org www.50years.org

ps the UN estimates 2 million deaths per year as a result of IMF structural adjustment.

whatever the US gives is mostly excess grain it doesnt want flooding its markets, and the rest is a pr stunt, it doesnt compare with what is being extracted.

This nation needs leaders, this nation needs builders, and this nation needs soldiers. A three caste system much like the Minbari. Its just sometimes the balance gets upset.

Jimmy Carter is a concerned citizen,as his work with Habitat for Humanity shows.

As a politician,he left much to be desired.

but doesn't he say that America needs to disarm, and can't ask other countries to do so until they get rid of their weapons of mass destruction?

There was a news story about it that I read just yesterday (when all my troubles seemed so far away), but the damn site updated and I'm not gonna pay to see it.

ARRRRGH too many people are becoming involved in these discussions. Im losing track on whos a righty, lefty, or mod.

It wouldn't surprise me to hear that Carter said that, though I missed it.I know he just received international honors, and the groups involved in this have a track record of anti-American sentiments.

I'll give Carter the benefit of the doubt for being tremendously naive. He admitted as much to Congress after Russia's invasion of Afghanistan. It was also his soft foreign policies that set the stage for the Iranian hostage crisis. As posted before, that was actually the 2nd such takeover of the US embassy in Iran. After the first time,Carter decided that being the world's nice guy was more important than the security of his citizens abroad.Considering his inabilities in other areas,I can see where this was just very poor judgment.

When the oil prices started climbing, and there was little that could be done with OPEC, he also foolishly got on TV and told the public that they would just have to use less and pay more for what they used, rather than attempt to find ways to lessen our dependence on foreign oil,at least.

He even made a visit to some home in Pittsburgh to ask a "random" household what they thought of his economy. While the gesture is noble, any random household will only know what they experience firsthand.Considering the costs of such a visit,he could have conducted a poll much more easily and gotten the same results. This was especially true in the Pittsburgh area, which was being rocked by the fall of the steel industry, and is still affected today by the same.

His actual sentiments may have been more globalistic, since he, at least was, a member of the Trilateral Commission. In his particular case, though,I would give a little slack,if for no other reason than the time and effort he puts into helping the underprivileged.

But then again, one of his last official acts was reportedly to establish a government subsidy for peanut farmers.
