banned from chat for saying the word 'idiot'

I saw this thread this morning so I decided to drop into the chat room for the first time in many years. I was a little overwhelmed with the PMs popping in, but all were manageable and polite. But I can see where there would be frustration, picking and choosing whom to reply to. It certainly makes keeping up with the main room rear impossible.

All that aside, there is no excuse for boorish behavior either in the main room or in PMs. The Mod's job is thankless and near impossible in itself, I would imagine. Trolls are annoying and even the best of us can get goaded into swatting them (feels good) - but the best way is to report them or ignore them.

LOL...people probably thought it was a fake or a trick of the eyes to see you on chat.

But seriously, the chatroom is like a romper room. Some people play nicely with others, some do not. You have to decide to be an adult and play by the rules posted or risk getting banned. The rest of the recommendations listed above are all good - but honestly, it's just semantics. YOU control your experience by either behaving or not. Or close the room. It's not that complicated. And while I haven't been in there in a week or so, the pattern rarely varies. And you couldn't pay me to be a mod - totally thankless job. So thank you Annie and Flatfoot for taking up the flag.... we need folks like you who care and don't care about dealing with the "idiots" who need baby sitting.
 
It's been about 6 or 7 years since I entered the chat room. This thread is a reminder of why. 😀
 
I really hate to quote myself, but pretty much all I have to say about the PM issue can be found here:

#7. DO be smart about PMs. A PM/IM/PC (all these terms get thrown around, they mean the same thing) is a private message or conversation between you and one other user. You can initiate one of these through the main chat window, but they are often a subject of contention. Because this is a silly list, it is only fitting that I fit at least one stupid acronym in here about what’s important in a PM. Make sure you value P.I.C.K. before sending!

P-Permission: You should ask before you PM! This is rule #5. Simply ask the person you wish to PM in main chat first. Don’t worry, the worst that can happen is them saying “no”, it won’t ruin your life.

I-Information: This refers to profile information. Nobody likes to be asked in a PM: “r u a girl??”. It’s annoying, and shows that you didn’t care enough to even check the profile of the person you want to talk 1 on 1 with.

C-Content: Please keep in mind that PMs are still part of chat, and thus under those rules. It also may not be against the rules to start with any of the following lines, but general consensus shows that they do not go over well:

“I want to tickle u”
“Ur pics r sexy”
“u look like u’ve been bad, I’ll have to tkl u”
“plz tikle me”
“Want to talk about my ticklish wife/aunt/sister/dog/girlfriend/teacher/mailman?”
“wut r u wearin”
“can I have sex with u” (Special Thanks to Shae for providing me with this line)

A simple “Hi!” will often go over well, or just ask them the question you felt you couldn’t ask in main.

K-Kindness: This one is really tacky, but seriously guys, be nice to people. Just because you are separated by who knows how many miles behind the computer screens does not mean you have permission to berate and be rude too or look down on other users.

So yeah, P.I.C.K. the right way to PM! (copyright knicks 2013 no stealing)

EDIT: If it gets out of hand, you can turn on Ignore PMs in the settings or use the ignore function to no longer see a user's messages if they are harassing you.
 
Like mils, I haven't been into the chat in a very long time either, at least several years. I used to be in there every night in my early years with the forum, but for whatever reason just stopped. After reading this thread about what happened in the chat, that seems like a wise decision.
 
For future reference , is the much cuter-sounding term 'idjit' an acceptable replacement word that can be used in lieu of the harsher-sounding 'idiot'?
 
The bottom line is the way terms are used if you are constantly putting some one down or insulting them then any term spelled any way is inappropriate. Its not so much the terms used but how they are used.

If someone said "Boy I had a really f&*#d up day today" I dont think most mods including me would say much,

However if someone said "UserA is a real jerk." You will likely get the attention of mods much quicker.
 
What a shame, Mistress. You won't be able to watch people role-play and talk about what they had for breakfast last week.
 
Sometimes I wish I gave enough of a shit to check out chat just to see what the hoo-ha is about.

It sounds like the wild west in there.

There are rules for proper behavior within the Chatroom, as well as the Forum.

If you are experiencing an issue with a User, please contact the Chat Room Mod, or find a Moderator. Myriads is easy to find and always willing to listen.

The reasons behind your ban were explained by Annie as well as a message from Myriads on any suggestions you may have.

If you find yourself without any ability to contact a Moderator and receive a response right away, then use your best judgement: Block the user. Send a PM to an Admin or Moderator, so we know and can clue Annie to whom to keep an eye out on.

We need your assistance just as much as you need ours to keep the peace going.

Closing this up now as it was about a specific issue and not the Chat in general.
