Childhood fads

Well in the mid-1990s, at my school, it was Pogs, yo-yos, Pokemon cards. I remember getting this machine that allowed you to make your own pogs, which seemed unbelievably cool at the time! 😀

Like many have said, Pogs were very much a fad at school - there was also Tazzos, which were pogs with little grooves in them so could link them together and build things.

A more specialised fad was the Wilson 'teardrop - shaped' badminton racket (basically had a head shaped like a squash racket as opposed to standard oval badminton racket). All the cool kids got one thinking it would make them unbeatable. I didn't get one until a couple of years ago, when I thought I should probably add it to my collection of vintage rackets. Frankly, it's horrible to play with and I'm glad I never actually used it as a main racket!

Ha, yes. And how about doughnuts on the handlebars of your BMX, and pegs on the wheels...stripped down BMX bikes so they'd be lighter and jump higher. Mongoose, Haro, Diamondback, Quandangle. - bikes were huge.

When I was five years old, the big fad was Davey Crockett, and every boy in my neighborhood had a fake raccoon skin cap.
When I was eight years old, hoola hoops became a very big fad.

Yes, I definitely remember when that was popular. Back then, my father refrained from tying one to the radio antenna of our 1949 black Chevy.
