Like many have said, Pogs were very much a fad at school - there was also Tazzos, which were pogs with little grooves in them so could link them together and build things.
A more specialised fad was the Wilson 'teardrop - shaped' badminton racket (basically had a head shaped like a squash racket as opposed to standard oval badminton racket). All the cool kids got one thinking it would make them unbeatable. I didn't get one until a couple of years ago, when I thought I should probably add it to my collection of vintage rackets. Frankly, it's horrible to play with and I'm glad I never actually used it as a main racket!
