wrestling legend Chris Candino died recently at the age of 33. The good news is that the hollywood brother hears it was not drugs like most wrestlers but it is still sad. Chris will most likely be remembered as th lucky man that got to tickle and make love to Tammy who was known by millions as Sunny in the old WWF. Chris First became famous when he was in the WWF as a BODYDONNA. Then he left and had some great matches in the EXtreme Championship Wrestling.

However what the hollywood brother will remember most is last summer seeing Chris in the Garden State at Wildwood N.J. Chris was scheduled to wrestle on the beach but when he got there he went first to a area that fans were hanging out at. This was even before he went to the promotor to check in. Then he shook hands and signed autographs for his fans. That night during the match, Chris was entertaining as he really made the hollywood brother believe that he was getting hurt when his attacker assulted him. Then later he came out and entertained the crowd by doing a dead perfect Ric flair impersonation. Then after the matches Chris and his lovely wife Tammy are walking on the boardwalk and Chris continues to just hang out and talk with fans. The hollywood brother was impressed. As the night wore on Chris and Tammy walked the wildwood Boardwalk and went on some rides. Chris even won Tammy a stuffed animal.

The hollywood brother got to see Chris Candino perform two more times in Wildwood N.J. last summer and the Hollywood Brother legitamietly thought Chris should be headlining in the WWE.

The Hollywood brother feels so sad for Tammy as they were so young and she got to live her whole life now without him. The Hollywood Brother's thoughts and prayers go out to Tammy, Chris, their fans and there family.

wwe needs to start paying tribute to wrestlers that gave their body and souls to the sport. I cant stand Vince mcmahon. He has no respect for his employees. Yes, i know granted that they sign contracts that say that your going to be putting your body in harms way, but still....

Whoa! Whoa! When did this happen?!?! How did this happen?!?! Did this have anything to do with Chris breaking his leg in the TNA Pay-per-view match last Sunday?? Man, this is incredibly sad news.......

At least they made a statement acknowledging the ordeal.

World Wrestling Entertainment is saddened by the passing of Chris Candido.

Chris appeared in WWE as Skip of the Bodydonnas in the mid 1990s. He also competed for ECW and WCW, and held both the WWE and ECW World Tag Team titles and the WCW Cruiserweight Championship. He was an amazing athlete and a gifted performer, and we offer our deepest condolences to his family and friends.

This is very sad, and unfortunate. Theres been a steady string of wrestlers dying these last few years particularly. It has to be coincidence, but what a coincidence!

from what the hollywood brother has read, it was a complication from a surgery. the hollywood brother saw on the tna website that the funeral and wake is in new jersey. perhaps the hollywood brother will have to pay his respects

Until recently, I worked indy pro wrestling in this area as a TV color commentator and ring announcer...I never was close with Chris and Tammy ("Sunny") but I knew them and they were always very nice people.

Chris sustained a freak accident injury this past Sunday in a match on the TNA pay-per-view. As a result, on Monday he had surgery to repair his broken ankle/leg, which included insertion of screws and metal plates. He was at the TNA taping this past Tuesday at Universal in Florida with the cast and very active. He collapsed at his home in Matawan this past Thursday night and was pronounced dead at the hospital. It was due to a blood clot, complications from the surgery.

On PWInsider.com, which I highly recommend subscription to as it is by miles the most legitimate pro wrestling news site on the internet, a former doctor for ECW who worked with Candido (although not with this injury) explained the probable cause for his passing. I'm paraphrasing here, but he said that with such a surgery it's actually not too uncommon for a blood clot to occur, usually due to the leg not being elevated for an extended period of time (perhaps due to a long car or plane ride). Since the blood isn't flowing as it should because of the pressures of the surgery, clotting can occur and ultimately this clot usually winds up traveling to the heart or lungs. It isn't something that shows any symptoms either until it's too late. This isn't necessarily what happened to Chris, but it certainly could be a likely possibility.

TNA paid tribute to Chris on their shows this weekend, and I would expect at least a graphic on this coming week's WWE shows as well. Their website has a brief story, and this past Saturday's Asbury Park Press had a very nice story on Chris, who was from this area (Spring Lake, to be exact).

Chris is survived by his wife, Tammy, his parents and step-parents, and at least one sibling, a brother who also wrestles on the independent circuit. The wake is tomorrow at O'Brien's funeral home in Wall Township, New Jersey. There is also a scholarship fund that has been created in Chris' memory that the family has asked for donations to in lieu of flowers. The address for this fund is:

The Chris Candido Scholarship Fund
Bank of New York
3rd Avenue & Washington Street
Spring Lake, New Jersey 07762

Godspeed, "No Gimmicks Needed"...another wrestler gone too soon...but at least this wasn't for the wrong reasons.

you know, its hard when you hear somone die in pro wrestling. we've losts so many wrestlers. owen hart, curt hennig, miss elizabeth, hawk(lod), rick rude, and many more. i remember watching him in ecw with shane douglas, bam bam bigelow, and lance storm in the triple threat. pro wrestling is goingt to miss him and wrestling fans around the world are to miss him too. rest in peace chris.

it is just so sad for a fellow so young to be gone. The hollywood brother just feels so bad for tammy and the family. it is also a shame according to the hollywood brother that most people never got to see him live and see how great he was.

It sucks Candido had to die. He actually gave a crap about the business which is rare nowadays. I believe he was clean for a few years before he passed. It's unfortunate he passed away when he was getting his life turned around.

sorry guys, but...

Shame to hear about "no gimmicks needed", but I tell you somethin'...I feel better about his passing the way he did than watching the slow deterioration of my childhood hero Jake "The Snake" Roberts. The Snake was my all time favorite wrestler, he had it all a look, charisma, heat from the crowd, etc and then it just went downhill.
