I can imagine having his job, with the pressure and repetitiveness, could cause me to become quite irritable.

Not to pick on you or anything , kis123 , but ... you've never had a bad day? You've never lost your temper? You've never reacted to something or someone & regretted it later?

I think most of us have come across a post or two on this forum where you haven't been shy about displaying ... um , passion ... in responding to different topics. Maybe not to the extent of dropping F-Bombs , but I think you may have a few occasions under your belt where you've maybe called people out on something they posted & maybe remarked on their degree of intelligence. Unless I'm thinking of another kis123 ... 🙄

Again , I don't say these things to pick on you , but just to maybe help you better understand where Christian Bale was coming from when he lost it.



I'm pretty much in the same boat w/you on this one , though ... The Dark Knight is waaayyyyy overrated.

Not trying to pick on me right? Yep, I truly believe that. Really folks, nothing I've ever written in this forum compares what that man did and you know it.

Is anyone paying me a bunch of money to be in front of a screen? No! To be exact, I pay my ISP every month to sit in front of this screen so this is an apples/oranges thing to me.

And I have NEVER spoken to anyone in the manner he did to that guy....and I mean NEVER!

There is NO excuse to debase another human being...none at all! He puts his pants on one leg at a time just like anyone else. Why does he get to insult and humiliate someone? Because he's a big star? Big deal!

At least I can take what I can dish out; wonder if the shoe were on the other foot would he be able to camly stand there while being verbally assaulted in front of the staff?

Character is what you show when no one is looking or in Mr Bale's case, when the papparatzi (sp) aren't in his face. Yeah, he needs some character makeover IMO.

unless i'm missing something, we are all human. and, i don't know about anyone else, but if someone waltzed in, not once, but twice, and screwed around while i was trying to work on a time-sensitive project, i wouldn't be too happy about it.

no one seems to care about the guy he unloaded on because the doof was causing trouble on the set. it seems to me that Bale lost it after the guy was "looking at the lights" during a filming. pretty certain other people got on to the guy for his dumb choices, and NO ONE SEEMS TO CARE ABOUT WHAT MIGHT HAVE HAPPENED AFTERWARDS. for all we know, the cast and crew went out for a pint, and Bale could have very well made up with the guy.

And that necessitated a public tantrum by someone no one knew existed until about two years ago? Right, you go ahead and take up for the guy; I hope no one ever treats you that way. There is absolutely no excuse and I'm glad he got exposed for it.

He's a diva, plain and simple.

The Machinist was an especially hard movie to watch because he put his own health at risk for the movie; he lost enough weight to appear very gaunt and to the point of starvation. this is a man who does his craft well and does what he can to make a good flick.

and, you know what? i have been treated that way. i've had senior co-workers and bosses and managers tear me a new one for making a mistake that could have done some real damage to the company i was working for. but, after all was said and done, the mistake was fixed and there were apologies all around.

like I said: this sort of thing happens more often than you realize, whether it's Bale or Clooney or Pitt or Pfeiffer or...whoever. Bale just got the short end of the straw when someone decided to record the audio of the incident, but no one ever stopped to wonder what the whole story was. and, as kis123 is known for doing, jumped to conclusions and assumed the worst.

Best film he's ever done might just be Steven Spielberg's Empire of the Sun. The film was released in 1987 making Christian about twelve or thirteen at the time.

I have had admiration for him since American Psycho. I really think that that is my favorite of his. I loved the book and the movie actually was close to it. Anyway, to get back to the original post, I kind of think that he really puts himself into his work and I can understand, as a creative person, (and when you are creative, sometimes time is money) when you are in the zone, you are there, sometimes it take awhile to get there, and its beyond frustrating when someone messes it up for you. Especially if they keep doing it. I don't think that gives him the right to go crazy, but I wish I kind of knew what kind of a scene he had to be filming, maybe he had to be angry or overly emotional in it. He seems like the type of person who really gets into their work, I mean look at the Machinist and what he did to his body for that role.

Bale is an awesome actor. He's probably one of the best ones still alive.

A lot of the world's best actors, artists, and musicians are/were hard to get along with on a personal basis. Still, that doesn't keep me from enjoying their work.

Something has to be pretty fucked up for me to care about their personal lives.

For example, if Bale was caught molesting a child, I'd probably boycott all of his stuff, but this meltdown is pretty minor in the grand scheme of things.

Good point. Not to mention, the DP had brought his pet donkey to the set that day as well, and since the DP had given it some Spanish Fly, it was just humping everything in sight like a madman. Hence, Bale's threat to "kick (his) fucking ass" was entirely justified.

Up until now, I just realised that the last reference to Spanish Fly that I ever heard was in ninty one!

Is that stuff still on the market?
