Hey guys
wondering if anyone can help me.my parents are away at the moment and i had some mates round the other night (7 people) and i discovered the day after that my marble fireplace/surround has been stained. there are 3 big rings and a few small blobs that still remain on the marble which i'm guessing is rose wine.i've tried cif all purpose cleaner, washing up liquid and vinegar(uktv style tip) and hg marble stain colour remover...neither of which has worked and now i'm at my witts end.no idea what to do.by the way in case u are wondering my parents were aware of me having mates round so it wasn't unknown to them.but i wanna try and get it sorted for them before they are due back next wednesday.so has anyone any ideas about what i could do?
any advice would be most appreciated.

How to Remove Rose and Red Wine Stains From:
Alabaster, Marble

Blot up the excess. Wipe the surface with a cloth dipped in a solution of washing soda or detergent (not soap) and water. Rinse well and wipe dry. If a stain remains, mix a few drops of ammonia with 1 cup 3% hydrogen peroxide. Soak a white blotter with the solution and place it over the stain. Weigh it down with a heavy object. Continue applying the solution until the stain has been bleached out. Rinse well and wipe dry.

Try that. 🙂

Here's the link

I'm thick....I don't understand....
"washing soda or detergent"-eh?Like persil or summat??
"mix a few drops of ammonia with 1 cup 3% hydrogen peroxide. Soak a white blotter"???

I'm with you. I didn't quite understand either, but I thought it was just me. 😛

I'm with Nerrad, try the lemon juice. Wonderful stuff that is. 😛

i've just tried lemon juice...still no joy.i stopped coz it looked like i was making it worse....half of one of the rings has gone but it's a slightly different shade now-kinda scratched look to it.so i dunno wot to do.

I heard somewhere that baking soda usually works as a non-chemical method.

=/

edit: Outta curiousity, how long has the wine stains been there? Marbles pourous, meaning liquids can soak in.

the stain happened on sat nite but didn't notice it til sunday.ive been trying to clean it since sunday though.
no i've been using kitchen roll to put the lemon juice on it and then a soft dishcloth....my older brother is constantly looking over my shoulder and he doesn't trust me and he thinks the lemon juice might make it worse and he won't let me leave it on...so he let me rub it into the stain and then wipe with the cloth.

What part exactly you don't understand ?. Ammonia is a chemical product, widely used in the cleaning industry. Hydrogen peroxide, is another chemical product used in medicine and the cleaning industry too (3%, indicate concentration percentage). White blotter, is an absorbent paper, sold in stores or supermarkets.

Seltzer water (charged water, unflavoured carbonated water) poured directly on the stain and then blotted off with a paper towel after a few minutes might be of some help.

"Washing soda" means sodium carbonate, a substance similar to the carbonic acid used to create carbonated beverages. "Detergent" would mean dishwashing liquid or a washing powder for fabrics like Downy.

Well I didn't know what they were or where to get hold of them. Not knowing what they were was the part I didn't understand.

ok thanks....i'll give that a try.

granite cleaner you can find it any speciality counter top store or try a place that sells headstones it will wipe it off like an abersive

when i say abersive i mean a light abersive it's not a compound lapper, i know how to clean marble and granite surfaces this will remove the stain. oh yah if you can't find the granite polishing agent try using scrubbing bubble or something simular to that apply it to a lint free rag and rub in same direction do not scrub hard do this and repeat adding chemical such as acids or high bases will stain white marble water is also a big no no if not wiped up right away OK hopes it will work out for you remember lightly repeat and same direction

That is something that i don't understand very well, you study them in the High School, in chemistry. Anyway, you can buy them in a chemical supply store or in some specialized stores, such as cleaning supply stores. The hydrogen peroxide you can get it from any pharmacy. Almost all these advises/tips require time, so do it asap.
