Indeed there are. A former colleague of mine was stung by a phony help line and had to pay a lot to have the malware that they installed removed.

Yea thats what happens.... they make your computer worse not better. You pay them... then you gotta pay someone else to fix their problems plus the original one.

The tragic thing about that case was that the victim was a woman aged about 80 who was still teaching one course (which had been her favorite to teach). Taking advantage of the elderly is despicable.

The only good thing is that she learned from the experience and never fell for a scam like that again. 😀 😛

That is good. 🙂 There a ton of medicare scams going on now. They keep calling my mom on the phone. She is too smart for them though. 🙂

Since I am over 65, I get those Medicare scam calls as well.

They happen a lot now. They have TV ads now to warn people so I guess they have become quite common.

Yes, indeed. I have received my new medicare card which has a new unique number on it, not the same as my Social Security number. That is for better security. 😀 😛
