my mother will stop paying for my tuition if I do. She says it's too chancy of a career and I need something more grounded, which is why I am studying communications.

If there's a way to take a few writing classes along with your other classes, try to. If you like to write or have ideas for a book, try writing it. It doesn't have to be either or, you can do both. 🙂
