Craig Sager died Thursday after a battle with leukemia.
If you are a sports fan and especially an NBA fan, you know the name, sideline reporter, he of the flashy outfits.
Revered by all in the NBA community, he once interviewed Phil Jackson in a suit of candy apple red pants, red shoes and a pink blazer that made Jackson reply that he resembled the good humor man. Another interview with Kevin Garnett ended with Garnett telling Sager that he should burn his outfit and do the rest of the broadcast in the buff. After his return to the NBA after treatment, San Antonio Spurs coach Gregg Popovich, who disdains in-game interviews, said he didn't mind doing the Sager interview because it meant Sager was back where he belongs.
He actually was the first reporter on the field, coming out of the third base stands, to interview Hank Aaron after Aaron's historic 715th home run in 1974.
At the ESPY's this past year after accepting the Jimmy V award for perserverance, his speech included the following : "Time is something that cannot be bought; it cannot be wagered with God, and it is not in endless supply. Time is simply how you live your life." and live it he did.
Prayers and condolences to his family and to the NBA community. As it was reiterated by many yesterday, he was a class act and will be sorely missed.
