Damsels in distress in TV, movies (and feet)

Witchfinder General (1968)

This Vincent Price vehicle about a traveling witchfinder roaming during the English Civil War starts with Talfrey being led along by her bound-in-front wrists on the way to a gibbet outside of town. About 30 minutes later Price's assistant is shown trying to slap a confession out of a young woman who sits against the wall of a dungeon cell with her hands manacled over her head. Approximately 10 minutes after that, the witchfinder presides over a trial by water with two women among the participants. They are tied hand and foot and dunked over the side of a bridge; later they are hanged after their having floated is taken as a sign of their guilt. At about 1 hour and 10 minutes, Kimberly is tied in a narrow spreadeagle position to the upper rungs of a ladder which is then propped up next to a tall cross-shaped frame near which a large fire has been built. She is executed by being slowly lowered into the flames by ropes tied to the top of the ladder and slung over the frame. In the film's final scenes about 10 minutes later, Dwyer and her husband are tied hands-over-head to horizontal bars set into a dungeon wall. Dwyer is then tortured by being repeatedly stabbed in the back with a needle, in hopes of convincing her husband to confess. Then she is laid face-down on a stone slab and it is implied that she is bound in preparation for being branded with a cross-shaped iron, but the bonds aren't shown, except for a rope around her neck.

Big Trouble in Little China (1986)


Description: Ms. Pai is shown tied down to a bed and cleavegagged with a thick piece of terry cloth at around the 30' mark (no commercials). There are several nice close-ups. As she is about to be wisked away by the demon, we can see that Ms. Pai's shoes have been removed during her captivity. There is a close up of her bound stocking feet when the demon cuts the rope that ties them to the bottom of the bed.
Around the 50' mark, Ms. Cattrall is shown in a cage laying on her stomach in a strict hogtie. She is also very tightly cleave-gagged with black cloth. Her hands are bound behind her back, and her ankles are tied together. A rope extends from her ankles over her left shoulder, around her neck, then back over her right shoulder and down to her bound hands, putting her in a hogtie. After she is rescued by Kurt Russell, she flees the warehouse with her gag still in place. No mention of Ms. Cattrall's hogtie or why she is the only one tied up in the audio commentary track

Black Snake Moan (2006)

Drama set in the rural South in which her character, a woman best described politely as an outright tramp, ends up beaten and left for dead, dumped in the middle of a dirt road where a farmer/blues musician (Samuel L. Jackson) whose wife has just left him discovers her. He takes her in, nurses her back to health, and takes it upon himself to try and save her from her wanton ways. Consequently, in a sequence beginning about forty minutes in and continuing for perhaps the next half hour, she's secured to a radiator by a long chain locked around her waist. Wearing only a rather revealing tank top and panties, she struggles vigorously at first, engaging in a tug of war with her would-be benefactor and resisting futilely his pulling her back into his house by the chain. Later, after she's changed into a dress he bought her, she's somewhat more docile as the story plays out to the point where he removes the chain.

Eaten Alive (1977)

Description: Scream queen Marilyn Burns (Texas Chainsaw Massacre) stars in one of the most intense bondage scenes ever filmed in a mainstream Hollywood production. Unlike the Texas Chainsaw Massacre (which is intentionally unerotic and disturbing), this movie features our heroine duct taped by an insane, horny old man. We see her duct taped in the bathroom and dragged to a bed in the step-by-step detail any bondage freak would truly love. She mmmphs and struggles against the black duct tape around her wrists and ankles and mouth while dressed in a nightie.

Burial of the Rats (1995)

Her character is led into a dungeon and suspended by her shackled wrists by soldiers wanting her to reveal the hiding place of the all-female cult she's a member of. That she has been tortured is later implied from her appearance, but she is shown being slapped only once, and given a single lash with a whip.
The hero skewers the torturer, but this is a Roger Corman quicky, so when he slashes at the rope suspending her, it merely quivers, but her hands magically become free and the pair exits stage left.
Also includes a second damsel tied wrists behind back who is a Loosie Award recipient.

Just at the beginning of this police Spanish show we see a good scene in which cute red-haired policewoman Teresa Hurtado is tied up underwater with black plasticuffs and cleavegagged with a white cloth.The scene lasts about one minute and contains several close-ups of her bound hands when she desperately tries to free herself.
Next in the episode we see a flashback in which we see Teresa on a boat,along with a putz and a killer. The killer ties her hands behind her back with the plasticuffs (which causes her to act a very good suffering expression) and then he cleavegags her. Then he escapes with his hostages on a motorship, chsed by the good guys. During the chase the putz tries to stop him and he's going to be killed when the heroine kicks the villain while bound and gagged. He then hits her and makes her fal into the sea.
Now we return at the beginning of the episode,with our damsels struggling furiously against her bonds trying to not drown. Fortunately one of the good guys rescues her just in time and drags her out of the water, where she can breathe still tied but now ungagged.

Goya's Ghosts (2006)

18 minutes in, Ines (Ms. Portman) is accused by the inquisitors of pagan sins and she is tortured until she confesses. There is a unique strappado suspension (never previously seen in a main stream movie and with a A-list actress). Her wrists are tied by a coarse rope behind her back. She is lifted by a wood wheel and ropes and we see her feet dangling above the ground. She screams her lungs out in pain. She is put back on her feet for additional questioning, She insist that she is telling the truth which leads to another lift up.
Subsequently (28 min) she is seen naked in a cell, chained with and iron on her left ankle. We see a monk walking towards her cell and we glance at some other female prisoners in torture bondage but the scenes are dark and too fast to see any detail.
Another similar scene, where the same monk visits here - although she is wearing a tiny "dress" and the monk gropes her at 44 min.
Towards the end of the movie (86 min) Ms Portman plays a second role, Alicia, Ines' daughter, who is arrested for prostitution and placed in iron manacles and carried away with other chained women in a cart.

Cord (2000) aka Hide and Seek

A pregnant and still pretty Daryl Hannah is kept prisoner in the basement of the home of a childless couple. She is chained in one way or the other for most of the film. She is chained by the ankle to a metal pole for much of the film, and one or both of her hands are cuffed above her head to a bedframe in at least five scenes. She's spead-eagledface down and molested. She's cleave-gagged in one scene. She's forced to exercise while chained to the pole. Her legs are tied to the bedframe in one scene. She's force-fed. There are a couple of escapes and near escapes. She's barefoot a lot. And if nothing in that littany of fetishes does anything for you, Jennifer Tilly is briefly handgagged.

An American Crime (2007)

Disturbing account of the 1965 torture-murder of Sylvia Likens (Ellen Page) largely at the hands of her demented caretaker Gertrude Baniszewski (Keener). About an hour in Likens is shown being bound to a pole in Baniszewski's basement by ropes around her torso. A few minutes later she appears squatting at the base of the pole, her hands behind her as if they're tied around it.

Ashes to Ashes 01x06

Hawes is coshed from behind as she confronts a suspect in a case. She is then laid on a large white sheet (possibly a tablecloth as this takes place in a restaurant) and dragged into the kitchens. One of her captors then throws some rope and a teatowel to her partner and orders him to 'tie her up and gag her'. She is cleave gagged with the teatowel, her hands tied behind her back, ankles roped together, she is also secured in a loose hogtie (some good shots here of the gag going into her mouth and the woman securing her ankles) Once she is tied her captors drag her on the sheet into the freezer. As she starts to come to she struggles and shouts through her gag, but eventually the cold gets to her and she becomes passive, halucinates that she is being attacked by a clown. Eventually she is rescued, when she is carried out of the freezer her hands are free but her ankles are still tied and the gag hangs around her neck Hawes is wearing a white jacket, blue blouse, black trousers and black leather knee boots with a stiletto heel.

Dark Angel 01x14

Logan and Max have been visiting an ex-Manticore doctor when Jace (Crutchfield), an X5, tries to kill the medico. Max and Jace fight and Jace is knocked out. When next we see her she is strapped down on a bed, arms to the side and legs (she's barefoot) strapped also. No gag. There are a couple of scenes with Max trying to persuade Jace to come over to the side of freedom, during which Jace struggles against the bands and at one point manages to free an arm but she's quickly re-tied.

Dangerous Prey (1995)

In the first scene, Krhut is shown in a metal chair with wrist and ankle shackles and a head restraint, being killed by activation of an implant designed to keep her from escaping. Later, Whirry is shown in the same chair, having the implant inserted. When Cartier returns from her mission she, too is put to death in the chair. Near the end of the film, Hunter, who has been assigned to blow up a warehouse, is captured by two men who tie her arms over her head and torture her with electric shocks. Whirry rescues her, they return to the organization's headquarters, kill people and break things, and live happily ever after.

Closet Land (1991)

Madeleine Stowe plays a writer caught up in a political nightmare. The movie opens in blackness, simulating her awakening to reality. She has been whisked off in her night attire from her home by a sinister government agency and now stands barefoot before her interrogator holding out the cuffs on her wrists which he unlocks.
Thereafter she is subjected to various sessions of bondage and torture. She is kept cuffed for lengthy periods, arms behind, seated on a chair and blindfolded. She is locked down on a table, wrists and ankles through metal loops.
At one point, seated cuffed in the chair, the camera pans down to one bare foot as the torturer proceeds to pull out her toenails. The actual torture is not shown, but the scene is deeply distressing nonetheless.
She talks about having been gagged, but this is never shown.
The camera pans across Madeleine's arm and then leg which is trembling. The pan is very slow as Madeleine chants "Torture is the policy of tyrants. Pain will only strengthen my will. You can break my body but you cannot break my mind." over and over. Finally the camera pulls to a wide shot as we see she has one arm tied above her head and her ankle tied at a severe upward angle as she is forced to stand on one leg. Based on the pain in her voice and the sweat dripping off her it is implied that she has been forced into that position for some length of time.

Death Bell (2008) aka Gosa

There is a nice scene at the climax of the movie of the girl that gets to survive the clutches of the killer. Ina (played by Korean singer Nam Gyu-ri) is seen tied in a chair with her hands tied to the arms of the chair and her ankles bound to the legs of the chair. Rope across her chest and arms pinned her to the back of the chair. She wears a tight cleave gag. She moans in fear with a tearful face as the killer gives a psycho speech over the school sound system. Later on she tips over the chair and remains there until the female school teacher comes to her rescue. Her mmmppphhs are heard over the loudspeakers.
Another scene (that barely qualifies for the DB) has a girl (unknown) hanging upside down from the ceiling bound with rope by one of her ankles, but no other bindings or gag. The other students must decipher the riddle else she will die. Unfortunately the classmates do not solve it in time to save her.

Stealing Candy (2002)

A movie star is abducted and forced to perform live sex in front of a webcam. About 25 minutes in (w/o commercials), two of the bad guys chloroform blonde Candy (Jenya) in her bedroom, tie her hand and foot - hands in front - and carry her to a van waiting outside. Dark scene (well, it's night). When Candy wakes up hours later, she is no longer wearing her nightie, but jeans and a red, sleeveless velvet top. She is now blindfolded with a piece of black cloth. Bonds are removed and Candy chloroformed again when a patrol car stops the van. The kidnappers convince the cop that the woman has simply fallen asleep.
Candy is taken to a country house. Her captors keep her blindfolded most of the time for the next half hour of the movie. Blindfold is removed and reapplied several times. Part of the time Candy is put away in a bedroom, tied to the headboard of a bed with her arms spread (towards the end, a short scene where both hands tied in front to the same bedpost). Candy is alternately wearing the clothes mentioned above or black lingerie. She is also barefoot the whole time, but the camera does not show her feet a lot.

À la folie (1994) aka Six Days, Six Nights

When Anne tries to leave the apartment the two first plead with her to stay, then compel her to do so. She is eventually knocked unconscious and awakens to find herself a prisoner - seated barefoot on the floor (barefoot), and bound securely wrists in front, palms facing each other to a radiator with a red scarf. She is to be kept that way until she 'comes to her senses'! Time passes (the awkward bits like going to the bathroom are skipped!) and we come to what, strangely, is perhaps more effective than the physical bondage. Beatrice engages (in the French movie fashion) in a monologue about how they could hold her sister a prisoner forever, perhaps kept always completely nude and kept locked up while she and the boyfriend went out on the town enjoying themselves. Upon return they would have sex in front of their prisoner.

Doctor Who 04x01

Approx 20minutes into the episode Verona's charector - a journalist - is caught snooping by the villians. She is taken to an office where she is tied to a wooden chair. Very elementary bondage, just three or four loops of black cable around her midriff pinning her arms to her sides.
After about 10minutes the Doctor frees her,but she is almost immediately recaptured and again tied to the chair same as before, this time she remains there fro the duration of the episode
About 5 minutes from the end of the episode we see her for the final time, exiting the building with the chair still tied to her back

Amusement (2009)

Later in the movie, Jessica Lucas is searching for her boyfriend in a decrepit and creepy hotel when she finds Fernanda Dorogi bound and gagged inside a mattress. Only her face is visible; she is gagged with a dark cloth tied between her teeth.
Even later in the movie, the lead actress, Katheryn Winnick, discovers her two childhood friends bound and gagged. They are both bound in upright, spread-eagle positions, and gagged with cloths tied between their teeth. It also seems that the villain has performed a dissection on them, having peeled back the skin of their abdomens, exposing their innards. This is revealed to be a deception; the villain has attached rubber sheets illustrated with pictures of organs to the front torsos of his victims.The two actresses are bound for a fairly lengthy period of time, and their gags look realistic and secure.

Shadow Puppets (2007)

The first view is of the (at that point unnamed) character in a Hannibal Lecter style bite mask seen through a slot in a heavy cell door. The door is opened by Jolene Blalock's character just under a minute later to reveal a full view of Ford's character extremely heavily restrained and struggling hard. Like all the other characters, she is dressed only in grey underwear and t-shirt.
In addition to the mask, which covers the lower part of her face below the eyes (and seemingly acts as a gag, since she can't do anything but mmmph at this point), she is fastened in a heavy canvas straitjacket. Her legs and feet are bare, and she has smallish dark tan leather restraints on her ankles with a couple of foot of chain between, looped through a fixed ring on the floor. There is also a leather strap binding the jacket sleeves where her arms cross in front, this is connected by chain to the same ring in the floor.
The mask is removed on-screen by Blalock's character in close-up - it takes her several seconds to get to grips with the various straps and buckles holding it in place. After that, she starts to work unbuckling the straitjacket from behind although the camera view is from the front of both characters. After this is removed, both of them start work on unbuckling the ankle restraints, although these are only briefly and partially in shot due to the camera angle.
