Did You Ever Get Into Something.. And Not Know.. Why?

In the last.. week, in between the job search/other things I do.. I've gotten into watching something and I have no idea why.

That something is..

The Mary Tyler Moore Show.

I know Ms Moore is a wonderful actress. As I think back, I've watched her in exactly one role in probably my entire life, and such was within the decades of the 2000s/2010s On Demand when I was living in Lancaster. As those who saw the movie know, Ms Moore played the mother in the 1980 movie by Robert Redford, Ordinary People.

The Mary Tyler Moore Show started when I was.. eight months old, and went off the air when I was seven.

I know why I was drawn to some of my other favorite shows during my lifetime,

Dallas : A Rich, Warring, Texas oil family with an evil brother who screwed people over every week. Oh, and Bobby Ewing drove a great car, and was involved with hot women.

Three's Company: John Ritter;s character, Jack Tripper, was a nice guy, oh, and he always lived with two beautiful women.

So, as I'm taking breaks at night between my job search, and watching Jim Gardner, I;m also watching .. The Mary Tyler Moore Show.

I guess the question..is.. did you suddenly just get into something you previously had no interest in whatsoever, and not know why?

To answer your question, yes, a few times. Recently I've taken to watching football. I've never cared for the sport, until a few years ago. I'm now a member of the "Birdgang" (Arizona Cardinals fans). Even been to some games at the stadium. No one, on either side of my family, watches football. It was never on growing up, yet now I'm contemplating a NFL package on TV. I cannot even begin to tell you how I became to be a football fan.

More damaging, though, is that I took up smoking about 6 years ago. Never had a single cig before then. My friends don't smoke. My family members don't smoke.

McPersian, I'm a baseball fan. I've always lived in either the NYC area or in Pennsylvania. I've been into the Atlanta Braves since I was a teenager., and yes I'm guilty of sitting at games in NY or Philadelphia and rooting for the Braves.

I smoked, for a year, in college, which was over 20 years ago. A group of friends I had took up smoking pipes, and also pot, for a while.

Weird thing, when I graduated, and lost touch with this group, I completely gave it up.

Smoking is something I'm a bit;.. biased against, because I lost both my mother and paternal grandfather, to cancer. Both of them were heavy smokers. My mom gave it up, and still got lung cancer that went to her brain.

Good Luck with giving up the smoking.

I am very sorry to hear about your mother and grandfather. My sympathies.

Yes, I need to quit. I hear about it from both sides of my family (especially my father's, as many members are Muslims). Strangest thing is, while I smoke cigarettes, I do not drink alcohol. People tell me I'm "backwards".

Baseball is my mom's family's sport. I enjoy a good ball game.

Back to the topic of The Mary Tyler Moore Show, the original topic of this thread.

As I'm watching my.. one to two episodes a night, in between my job search, TMF time, Jim Gardner, other things, I'm realizing things about this show.

There seems to be a very strong camraderie between the characters in the show. '

Mary Richards character changes greatly over the course of time.

I cant claim to watch each episode in order, and I'm not say, on episode 14 of season 1 after watching two episodes a night for a week. I do watch about two episodes a night, but I skip around seasons, for whatever reason lol.

Thats a cool hobby, luvgirlsfeet. I have a lot of baseball cards that I've saved since buying them when I was little.
