Then ladies and gentlemen, I give you Vanessa Carlton! Since her debut hit A Thousand Miles, Miss Carlton has had 3 albums, Be Not Nobody ( 2002 ), Harmonium ( 2004 ), and Heroes & Thieves ( 2007 ). Now, after a 4 year hiatus, the piano-playing pop singer is back with a fourth album, Rabbits on the Run, which releases on June 21st! I encourage you, look her up on youtube, spread the word to anybody you know that appreciates this type of music, and get her name out there! The Nessaholics of the world want another tour. We want our favorite singer to be back where she belongs, on top of the industry, getting the recognition she deserves for the talent she has. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE help us out and spread the word about this amazing woman!

Where's the talented singer-songwriter? Didn't she do that "makin my way downtown..." song that made me want to slit my wrists?

"Rabbits on the Run" makes me think of a Paul McCartney song. I think I'll go listen to that.

Ok

Interesting, quite a success story according to Wikipedia, before her albums even, and a beauty too. Well educated for sure. These schools demand talent. I will check her out, muchos gracias.

 Childhood and youth

She developed an interest in ballet at the age of nine and was accepted at the School of American Ballet at age fourteen while attending high school at the Professional Children's School. At age eighteen, she decided to devote her time to piano-playing and songwriting, choosing not to become a dancer on graduation. Instead, she attended Columbia University and performed in bars and clubs in Manhattan, New York while waitressing in Hell's Kitchen.

Those NY schools must be easy to get into...

Wikipedia on Lady Gaga: At age 17, Gaga gained early admission to the New York University's Tisch School of the Arts and lived in a NYU dorm on 11th Street. There she studied music and improved her songwriting skills by composing essays and analytical papers focusing on topics such as art, religion, social issues and politics.[15][25] Gaga wrote an 80-page thesis on pop artists Spencer Tunick and Damien Hirst; research that prepared her for her future career focus in "music, art, sex and celebrity."

while i respect ur right to ur own opinion, i must ask that please, if you dont have anything valueable to contribute to the topic, then please dont post on the thread.

Vanessa Carlton is pretty unoriginal, IMHO.

Actually most "musicians" today are unoriginal and are cut from the same mold. Turn on the radio and hear 4 different songs by 4 different female "artists" that all sound the same. Same voice, same music, same words.....which is why I do not listen to "pop" radio to begin with..

I like maybe 1 song of gaga's and 2 from katy perry, but for the most part I would never buy an entire collection of their stuff...not even 1 cd...

I HAVE however, always enjoyed this one...

but again, I wouldnt buy anything from her....

and V-dude...when you ask for opinions you need to accept both sides...you cant pick who can and cannot post...dont start a thread where you think you get to decide what is and isnt adding to it..

I agree with the both of you. Especially, with Ray... Most of the material published today sounds like the same stuff by other artists. Although once in a blue moon, their is a song worth giving a try.

i wasnt aware that i was asking a question like that, the title wasnt an actual question, this whole thread was supposed to be just an infomercial, not a bash music thread.

and on that note, there is nothing unoriginal about vanessa, if u take the time to listen to her music, its unlike anything else thats been popular. she doesnt sing about sex, shaking her ass, drugs, hot guys, hot girls, death, destruction, or randomness. she sings about real fucking life. she writes all her own music, plays the piano in all her songs, and has an awesome voice to go along with it. why cant anybody seem to appreciate that?

i mean, i dont see singers today writing songs about a fan of theres that has cancer and is dying, and whos dying wish was to meet them. vanessa did. its called annie, and is on her 2nd album, harmonium. thats heart, something very few artists have today. so dont sit there and try to tell me vanessa is unoriginal, and it just another pop singer in a world of cookie cutter crap, because i assure you, if u really listened to her music, u wouldnt think that.

and NO, this isnt targetting 1 person, this is for all of u that have had the indecency to bash vanessa without really knowing anything about her besides one song.

Dude, calm down. It'll be alright. We'll get through it together.

Taylor Swift sings about the same stuff Carlton does... It's about fan-base...

Play the piano, guitar, drums, bass guitar, saxophone, etc... Who cares?

Conformity overrules originality in this day and age...

If you want something that is close to original; go see a starving artist who has passion left in their veins. They may not have marketing, but at least they have their talent and passion for what their doing. It might not be up to societies standards, but at least they gave it a shot.

By starving; somebody that is local...

I've never heard of her before, but she seems quite sweet. She doesn't really...stand out to me much or anything, but her piano playing is rather nice. All in all, lovely musician, though not really my type. I'd recommend her to anyone who likes pop-y female singers.

ok, but the point is, when that local person hits it big, they suddenly become worthless garbage? why? does having a nationwide fan base make you no longer talented?

I support this comment 🙂

I'd also add, while it's not a very original idea and a little bit off topic, but...the concept of "this day and age" being ruled by conformity...its really been always like that. Herd mentality is nothing new.

I like Vanessa. Her stuff is catchy. Can we talk about Justin Bieber?

Talent has nothing to deal with it... It's the publicity.

It is nothing new... But, when you look at the genre's of music that has developed in the years. Granted, they all sound the same. They have their own little factions.

The factions comeback together to reinforce the herd mentality, but at least some artists and listeners were willing to step out of the box at least one time, and feel somewhat singular.

........-_-;;

so basically, if x person cant sing worth a damn, but they have passion for singing, but dont get recoginized, then they are worth listening to, but if Y and Z person have incredible talent for singing, and they hit it big, then they arent worth jack shit because they hit it big?

wtf is this logic?

Well, if X doesn't =Y=Z, but buying Y and Z... I am spending way too much on music.

But, good thing I hate commercialization; otherwise, I would have missed out on true talent...

Most of the artists I love... The populace has never heard of. But, are found on YouTube, or from friends.

Your argument is invalid.
