Do You Tell People Your Age?

Sure, why not. I'm 28, and have had a pretty interesting life, to put it nicely. But I have to disagree. I see age as just being a number in most respects. Your experiences make you who you are. You're age plays a physical part, but what you go through, what you experience, makes up the mental part.

Well, by saying that 'age is just a number', you're more or less saying that a person's age isn't relevant.

And in some things, it isn't.

In terms of experience, however, it's the most relevant factor there is. We all live at the same speed, meaning that someone of an older age will always have a higher amount of experience of life in general than someone of a lower age, unless they've spent a pretty lengthy amount of their life in a coma. Even if one person spent their entire life as a janitor, and another traveling the globe, in the end, they will still have the same amount of experience in life - just in different aspects of life.

I'm 24, but when I buy booze or smokes, they always ask for an ID. Pisses me off tbh 😀 #babyface

I'm sorry, but I just don't buy that. Friends of mine that are my age aren't near me in the mentality department. There's nothing wrong with that, but that is just how it is. Life changing experiences amount to a lot. IMO, it is something you have to experience before you actually get it.

In the mentality department? So, because they don't view the world the same way as you, or because they don't think the same way as you, they're somehow... 'less' than you?

I'm not actually quite sure what you're trying to say with this statement. It has very little objective meaning, if any at all.

I'm also unclear under what basis you can conclude that any way of living is objectively superior to another.

I never understood the big secret about not telling your age. especially with women. thats so taboo to ask a woman her age. puleeease! grow up!

As to the original question, I never lie about my age. There's no reason to.

As to the discussion of age being just a number, it is. Both the medical and psychology fields have determined that chronological age is the least effective way to measure a person's true age. Here is an interesting article defining the factors that really help determine your true Functional age, which include Biological age, Psychological age, and Social age.

Mentality, as in you can be mentally older than your number age. And as for a specific way of living? Superior, probably not. Fuller, definitely. But nice try at taking what I'm saying out of context.

It's not too much about how you view the world, although if you still have that childlike mentality that the world is all sunshine and fairy tales with happy endings for everybody, then no, you're not too experienced in life or you would know better. A man who has spend decades traveling to far away lands, meeting new people and experiencing life as other cultures do has had a far richer, fuller life than the man who spent 40 years as a janitor. He has had a full life in his own way, but only in a limited sense. His life, his reality, is limited to what he has experienced close to home. That's not my opinion. That is a fact, my friend. The things you do and the things you go through have a deep and lasting impact on who you are and who you become.

I dunno. I suppose it's more of a matter of opinion. I'd press the point further, but I don't think poor Mitch wants me turning his thread into a philosophical debate.

I'm only 21, and Zac is 22, so yeah we're always upfront about our ages.

I'm 24 and I don't mind now and probably never will telling people my real age.

I am 31 myself. I have never been ashamed of telling people my age. To me it is just a number.

maniac, you have a point........sort of!

I came from the generation that a man in his 40s was distinguished and a woman in her 40s was just......old. Needless to say society has been much kinder to mature women, but sometimes I admit I obsess.

My forties have gone away today and I've joined what has been called by friends and family members as the 1/2 century club :milestone:. It's really hard for me to believe that I'm actually 50 because I don't feel 50 and I certainly don't look it. But since the alternative would really suck, I'm embracing my new decade of fabulous fifties and will see where it'll take me. I'm older, wiser (at least I'd like to think so), and have so much to look forward to.

So if asked, I'll tell.......but if not.......:DanceBun2:
