I will be going out of town tomorrow night to attend a funeral Thursday morning (of a first cousin who died of brain cancer).
So, I won't be posting all day Thursday. I will catch up Friday morning.

On a brighter note I am happy it's opening day for the Yankees. Maybe I should have taken today off instead of yesterday.
 
Opening day went well for the Yankees. Now they have a day off. You will get to Yankee Stadium soon enough.

I know it won't last but it was nice while we had it. I'm ok with going back to the 50s...for now.

Fortunately, I was already home when that happened.
I can imagine the discomfort of people who went out in a T-shirt when it was 77. :shivering:
 
And shorts...for me shorts don't even enter my mind till May.

Agreed. Except for my birthday, January 1st to March 31st is the worst quarter of the year.

Yes, they have the roster for it, and I can't forget that they almost eliminated the Dodgers in the NLDS last year.

At the opening to the telecast of Game 4 of that series, the Padres were playing a home game and leading 2 games to 1. The Dodgers had no starting pitchers left and were going with a bullpen game, while the Padres had a legitimate starting pitcher, Dylan Cease. Given all these facts, the announcers made it sound like the Dodgers were doomed to be eliminated that day. They speculated on whether Dave Roberts would be fired after another quick exit from post-season play.

Of course, 8 Dodger relief pitchers combines for a shutout as the Dodgers won, 8-0. :bouncybou

Will the Yankees use of the torpedo bat spread to all of MLB?
 
The Dodgers/Padres are so hot right now.

The torpedo bats didn't help yesterday when they were shut out through 8 innings...I don't think it's a magic bat or anything and I guess others in the league were using it last year and nobody really talked about it.

It seems to me that the pitchers can adjust to someone using a torpedo bat by pitching on the outside corner of the plate. This would force the batter to make contact towards the end of the bat which is no longer the thickest part. Then the batter adjusts by standing closer to the plate, and the pitcher readjusts with a brush-back pitch, and so on.

The Dodgers don't play the Pondscum (which is what I call that team from San Diego) until June 9th to 11th. So they can both go on winning without facing each other for a long time.
 
I like streaks like this...I think the Tigers were something crazy like 35-5 or something back in the 1980s? Maybe I'm not remembering right.
 
Your memory is correct. It was 1984. The Tigers began 9-0, were 35-5, and went on to win the World Series.
 
I don't remember it but I know I heard about it. I was 5/6 years old back then. My first real memory is the 1986 Mets winning the World Series. Ironically, I still became a Yankees fan even though Lenny Dykstra was my first favorite player. My family was all Yankee fans that's why.
