It seems to me that the pitchers can adjust to someone using a torpedo bat by pitching on the outside corner of the plate. This would force the batter to make contact towards the end of the bat which is no longer the thickest part. Then the batter adjusts by standing closer to the plate, and the pitcher readjusts with a brush-back pitch, and so on.
The Dodgers don't play the Pondscum (which is what I call that team from San Diego) until June 9th to 11th. So they can both go on winning without facing each other for a long time.
