So have I... Try N scale; you get as much detail and HO but more layout for the space you have.

Check out ebay for N scale and you'll see that I mean. The structures are so detailed.
 
the pics attached in my reply, are ones I have in my own collection. I don't have much space, but have seen some nice 3' x 5' track plans I am definately considering.

One guy even did a 3 x 5 layout in N scale that he hangs on the wall when not in us

The famous Horseshoe Curve is west of Altoona. You can view the curve by taking an inclined railway up the side of the hill.
