I used to really want the TMF to become more like facebook, because they clearly have a successful formula. My thinking was, if this many people enjoy interacting this way, they must be onto something that we at the TMF should probably try to tap into.

No more.

Facebook makes smart people into retards, and functioning social beings into anti-social shitheads. I just can't believe it.

Every day, EVERY day mind you, multiple "shares" cross my path about something tragic or important that everyone MUST be made aware of. And because I'm a slightly suspicious person, when I see people getting frothed up and all jumping on a bandwagon, I wonder what the hook is.

So I'll google the topic that's being shared, or the names involved, and sure enough there will be either no sign at all that this subject exists, or else the first hit will be snopes.com debunking the whole topic.

And if it's not that, it's someone who thinks they can intelligently summarize a political topic on the face of a jpeg. SMUGLY. It's never just a humble case of "OK, here's my opinion on something." Instead, it's inevitably accusatory and arrogant, like "Ah-ha, I'm about to destroy decades of political debate with this pun!!"

So I come to you now, beloved forum, a changed man. God bless this discussion format, and may the TMF forever stand as a place where more than two sentences can be strung together to form a thought.

I don't know about you, but I single-handedly took down an evil African dictator by sharing a Facebook status the other day...

If you put that on a jpeg and wrote "share this to topple another african dictator" there's no doubt in my mind that within 24 hours it would come drifting down my screen 🙂

I don't mind the humorous stuff and if something like a child is missing I will share that item to help but what gets me is when something pops up as a challenge or dare to make me think the way the original poster does. Yes, some images come across my feed because it went across someone I know feed too. This doesn't bother me. I'm talking about me being targeted specifically. "I know 95% of my friends won't post this but do you have the guts to put it on your homepage?" .....and this is usually about a disease or woman and kids being abused along with putting a chip on their shoulder and challenging political or personal beliefs. Okay, my personal beliefs are my own and not for sharing and would someone tell me who the fuck is in favor of cancer or beating the shit out of their wife and kids every day? I mean, c'mon.....Now if you want to throw something on my wall involving humor, helping to find a missing child, or inviting me to dinner, or funny pic about Weiner dogs, or teasing me about your visit to a mutual friend then go right ahead. Jeff, you make this site as you like it. I'll back you to the hilt.

Oh, by the way. Nobody has thanked me yet for saving the world last December. I twisted my knee doing it, you know.

Thank you for reminding me why I am happy not to have a Facebook account. 😀

Jeff, thanks. I agree with you about Facebook.

I'm guilty of having a Facebook account, but I visit Facebook very rarely. I have friends, relatives, (including my father), and former business associates on my "Buddy list", and, unless it's something extremely general. I don't want any of those people to know about my real life, or what I'm truly thinking. Just so all of you know, the TMF members know much more about me, good and bad, then anyone on Facebook does.

Occasionally, I will reply to a post that my favorite newscaster Jim Gardner makes, or reply to a post from a friend. I don't instant message on Facebook, and basically just go there for a very few minutes, while I can spend a lot of time here.

I don't plan to cancel my Facebook account, but nor do I plan to spend more time or post more. I will maintain the status quo. Facebook has served its purpose to me. I found my good long lost friend Adam on there. For me, that's enough.

I fully agree. Ever since Mom, Pop, Aunt Suzie and Uncle Joe got ahold of Facebook, and learned a few Photoshop tricks, Facebook has become the new home of email forwards--the Snopes.com fodder of 10+ years ago, now dressed up as greeting cards littered with gross misspellings and various propaganda. I'm sick of people's foolish Facebook crusades of idiocy--sharing media meant to stir up emotion without checking the facts, first. I just wanna laugh at funny pictures, share interesting news articles, and play Game of Thrones Ascent in peace. Is that too much to ask?

Photoshop is dangerous when not in the hands of a professional.

I was retarded and antisocial before facebook 🙂

I can do without the necessity of deleting any number of tracking cookies from there, be it facebook, their advertizers, links, or whoever, after every visit. I do mean every visit.

I agree with all the points made here... I like having facebook but I am SO FUCKING TIRED of seeing constant pictures and statuses about babies. Once a bitch has a kid, EVERY. FUCKING. STATUS. is something to do with the baby and they are so pointless! I want to unfriend every female under 40 until their child is at least 5 years old :frustrated: :sowrong:

**Lil' Josh just took his first shit that isn't mustard yellow. Will post more pics tomorrow!**

I like facebook and all, but honestly, if people had to post more than a couple sentences in each status update, I think it'd be even more annoying. Some people really should just be limited to expressing themselves with pictures and crude hand gestures.

Where's the "Like" button...

I agree Jeff. id like nothing more than to see Facebook go under. i also hate the punk ass kid that started it.

Facebook was good at first for hooking up with people you thought you'd never hear from again. I only post there a few times during the year because I don't want to be one of those people who write things like, "I just took a really long hot shower! Life is good!"

Nice to know others here share my feelings about Facebook. Never had a page, never will.

Photoshop is dangerous when not in the hands of a professional.
And even more dangerous when I sneak into Photoshop after hours with a vendetta in mind.....

I was retarded and antisocial before facebook 🙂
You're not that anti-social.

Bad Photoshop is PAINFUL to look at!
*raises hand* Guilty.

all I know is he better stay off my damn lawn!
I charge him a few thousand when I catch him walking across mine........in cash, not stock.

On the plus side, like one person stated in a previous post, I have reconnected with many old friends on Facebook. Some I haven't talked to in nearly thirty years.

I find it a good way to keep in touch with people if i dont like what i see i pass it by
