I used to really want the TMF to become more like facebook, because they clearly have a successful formula. My thinking was, if this many people enjoy interacting this way, they must be onto something that we at the TMF should probably try to tap into.
No more.
Facebook makes smart people into retards, and functioning social beings into anti-social shitheads. I just can't believe it.
Every day, EVERY day mind you, multiple "shares" cross my path about something tragic or important that everyone MUST be made aware of. And because I'm a slightly suspicious person, when I see people getting frothed up and all jumping on a bandwagon, I wonder what the hook is.
So I'll google the topic that's being shared, or the names involved, and sure enough there will be either no sign at all that this subject exists, or else the first hit will be snopes.com debunking the whole topic.
And if it's not that, it's someone who thinks they can intelligently summarize a political topic on the face of a jpeg. SMUGLY. It's never just a humble case of "OK, here's my opinion on something." Instead, it's inevitably accusatory and arrogant, like "Ah-ha, I'm about to destroy decades of political debate with this pun!!"
So I come to you now, beloved forum, a changed man. God bless this discussion format, and may the TMF forever stand as a place where more than two sentences can be strung together to form a thought.
