Just remembered a good one...
...back in my Air Force days, as a junior enlisted member, I spent many off-duty hours in the Airman's Club trying to drown as many brain cells as possible in alcohol. There was, of course, also dancing at the club, often with live bands. Now, I'm sure many of you can remember at least once in your life when you've had to take that long, horrible walk back to your seat after having had the courage to ask someone to dance, only to be rejected for whatever reason. Makes a person feel terrible, doesn't it? Sure does. Well, I just remembered a tradition we had at Sheppard AFB in the Airman's Club as a deterrent to this happening (not that it was 100% effective, mind you, or I wouldn't have this to share, LoL).
If someone was rejected (usually a guy), once they rejoined their friends at the table, their friends would begin shouting to the band, "Play Lucille! Play Lucille!" (meaning the popular Kenny Rogers song of the time), a chant which would quickly be taken up by
*EVERYONE in the club!!!* Soon, the band would begin to play the song, and right after the chorus of,
You picked a fine time to leave me, Lucille.
Four hungry children and a crop in the field.
I've had some bad times,
Lived thru' some sad times,
But this time the hurting won't heal.
You picked a fine time to leave me, Lucille
...nearly everyone in the club would sing at the top of their lungs and point at the person who sent them on that long walk back to their table alone...
You bitch! You slut! You *****! to the tempo of the music. It was freakin' hysterical. Might not sound like it, just reading about it, but trust me... good times!
