Not necessarily. It's an oxymoron based on your perspective. If I lived in 1940's Poland as a Jew, then yeah, liking Hitler might be a bit of a stretch; but as a third party, I have every right and ability to admire his ability to sway millions of people.

Incidentally, I found the Zodiac killer to be the most interesting.

Yeah, and I have a Charlie Manson T-shirt { just kidding} I have a right not to admire any of them as a third party or not, there is nothing interesting about them, they are mass murderers and I,m glad that they are dead, it,s too bad that they all didn,t go the way of Mussolini, as far as swaying people goes you need to look no further than Bush, Cheney and Rumsfeld, if you like that sort of thing.

Hitler only because it still amazes me, after reading a two volume bio of the man, how he could manipulate so many people.

it's because he had a huge amount of help from the german ruling class. In 1931 Hitler gave a speech in a closed meeting to the German business community in which he assured them that in power he would take care of their interests. He referred to them as the elite and said that redistributing their wealth would be "counter-evolutionary" and unnatural. Indeed when in power the nazi's destroyed unions and worker rights and drove down wages.

Following this speeh the nazi party was flooded with generous donations of money and most crucially automobiles, which were used to allow the party to give public speeches in almost every town in Germany during a short time.

It's also worth noting that he really didn't convince as many people as we're told - the nazi's never actually one a majority in an election (their highest vote share ever was about 32%), rather the conservative parties led by Hindenburg handed them the government against the will of the people. Even at the hight of nazi power there were certain urban districts which were no-go areas for nazi officials and police, at least at night-time.

btw everyone - the whole dictatorship/democracy thing is a false dichotomy - the only important thing is which class is in power. So-called democracy is a shell game which serves to mask the dictatorship of the bourgeoisie, as is revealed whenever the people make the mistake of voting for someone who represents their own interests, for example see the fate of Allende in Chile (never forget the real 9/11).

The only two governments in which the working class ever held power, the USSR and Albania, both denied opposing groups the right to organisation and expression, and rightly so. Both states eliminated poverty and the many endemic diseases thereof, why should anyone be permitted to try to put a stop to that? Mass murder by social engineering, for example the deaths of around 3'000'000 in the former USSR due to the Gorbachev and Yeltsin "reforms" leave people just as dead as the conventional kind with bullets and gas. Ideas are more dangerous the guns - one does not permit enemies to have guns, why permit them to have ideas?

There's also the fact that the bourgeois democratic system cannot possibly be fair in a society where people lack equality of wealth - sure I can give my opinion to a few people on the internet or with whom I'm acquainted, but I can never hope to equal the coverage the capitalist parties get because advertising space is ruinously expensive for anyone who's not a billionaire. Liberal ideology harps on a lot about freedom while at the same time making that freedom an empty formality. The capitalists get the freedom to rob us blind and we get the freedom to complain about it. Forgive me if I don't sing hallelujah.
