Favourite 80's song?

Too many to choose from...

There were so many great 80's songs! 😀

I'll have to get back to you on that one. 😛

Cheers. 😎

This Musician's Opinion...

1st Vote: "Pull Me Under" by Dream Theater (recorded in 1989, but released in 1992 from their "Images and Words" compilation)

2nd Vote: "Still Of The Night" by Whitesnake (recorded in 1989, but released in 1990, from their namesake compilation)

Now THAT'S challenging lead guitar work!
:wow: 😱 😀

hmmmm

My two favorite 80's pop songs would have to be...

Mexican Radio (love it) and Come on Eileen

ticklegrrrl

80's...

I'd have to go with Sultans of Swing, and Panama. They typify the sound and mood of that decade to me.... Q

Ticklegrrrl would that be Come on Eileen by the Dexy's ???? Because that song is the best song ever. I love that song

Andy

Under Pressure by Queen and David Bowie. Or indded any song penned by either of those two artists during that period.

BTW, just as an aside, any other Bowie fans out there?

I agree with amk714. Too many great songs from that time period.
GuitarPeteTklr and qjakal named a couple of my all time favorites.
The one that typifies the 80's New Wave for me is "Relax"-Frankie Goes To Hollywood

Class of '83' baby! :cool2:

Holy cow....WAY TOO MANY!!!

I mean, there was rarely a bad song by any 80's Hair Band (Warrant, Poison, Motley Crue, Cinderella, Stryper, Firehouse, Ratt, Bon Jovi, Van Halen, Winger, Slaughter, Whitesnake, Kiss, Def Leppard....the list goes on and on)...so none of them can be excluded. But then you've got your groovy pop too... "She-Bop" by Cyndi Lauper, "Tainted Love" by Soft Cell, "Relax" by Frankie Goes to Hollywood, "Wouldn't It Be Good" by Nick Kershaw, "Don't Break My Stride" (artist's name escapes me at the moment), "Roseanna" or "99" by Toto, ANY SONG by Chicago, ANY SONG by Rick Springfield, "Rapture" by Blondie, ANY SONG by Heart, "After All" by Cher and Peter Cetera, "Seperate Lives" by Phil Collins and Marilyn Martin, "You've Got It All" by the Jets, the ENTIRE soundtrack for Footloose....bands like Lover Boy, Night Ranger, Styx, Simple Minds, Glass Tiger, The Fixx, Queen, The Outfield, Berlin, The Motels, can't forget Michael Jackson.....omg I could be here all day if I continue.

If I absolutely had to narrow it down though, to sum up the 80's for me, it would probably come down to either "Bust A Move" by Young MC (I still just wanna get up and dance every time I hear that song), or "One Night in Bangkok" by Murray Head. Just classic.

Mimi,

Very impressed by your knowledge of the 80's.

Thought it was only me who saw it as a magical era.

Cheers.😀

ANY SONG by Chicago

Oh Mimi, Old Chicago was my absolute favorite. Got to meet the personally one time backstage...my fav James Pankow was an absolute doll. ahhh...such a memory.

Anyway, the 80's had such good songs. I too love Relax. But I loved all the songs with great dance beats to them. How I danced the nights away in the 80's.

Anyone from LI might remember Malibu's in Long Beach, was my usual weekend spot dancing my tootsies off. Oh the big hair and the smell of hairspray in the ladies room!

JPie

THAT did it!
Now I REALLY feel acient, seeing as I actually REMEMBER the 80's( never mind that I was only a toddler/gradeschooler during that decane)
I would have to say that my FAVE 80's song of ALL time is Nina's 99 Luft balloons( or 99 Red balloons as the English version goes). I remember being a tiny tot back in 1984, when MTV was still in int infancy and lp's still the thing, watching this music vid and begging the folks to get me the single( funny thing is I STILL have most of my old LP's in a carton somewhere in my folk's basement in NJ).
Thanks for the memories, Moses and everyone
CR
aka Maggie( still trying to come up with a cool logo for my name!)

ANOTHER couple I like, for all those into 80's freestyle/club music.."Why you wanna go" and "Don't You Think It's Time" by Facination.. and "Each Time You Break My Heart" By Nick Kamen. I have fond memories of being a carefree kid, dancing in my friend's basement to these type of songs, dimming the lights, using flashlights, and pretending we were all "clubbing" !

Ah the memories!:dropatear

Myriads, I used to LOVE that song, "Voices Carry." Nonetheless, my #1 favourite has to be "She Works Hard for the Money" by Donna Summer. Politics and sex: what a combinaton!!!

Luv,

"Cruel Summer"-Bananarama
"Harden My Heart"-Quarterflash
"Ways To Be Wicked"-Lone Justice
"Burning Heart"-Vandenberg
"Antmusic"-Adam and the Ants
"Calling All Girls"-Hilly Micheals
Anything by The Busboys
"Kids in America"-Kim Wilde
"Beds Are Burning"-Midnight Oil
"Strength"-The Alarm
"Make It Better"-Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers
"Tube Snake Boogie"-ZZ-Top
"Slide It In"-Whitesnake
"Through Being Cool"-Devo
"If She Knew What She Wanted"-Bangles
"Talk Talk"-Talk Talk

Alright,Alright,....I'll stop already😛

Mistress Valerie said: Myriads, I used to LOVE that song when talking about 'til Tuesday's Voices Carry.

If you like it, then you should hear the song with it's original arrangement. It was significantly altered to the form that you know and love.

In the version that TT used to sing live, before they had a recording contract, the Pronouns were reversed. Switch the he's for she's, the him's for her's and vice versa. There is also an entire verse that was removed. It's a significantly different piece of music, but just as haunting and strong. I quite like both versions but it's original form with a bullying woman is more interesting.

OK, after thinking it over, I'll try to give a very brief and incomplete list. 😀

Various INXS tunes.
Some R.E.M. stuff.
Eric Carmen's "Make Me Lose Control"
Information Society's "What's On Your Mind (Pure Energy)"
A lot of Madonna's work.

Yes' "Owner of a Lonely Heart"
Neneh Cherry's "Buffalo Stance"
Robert Palmer's "Addicted to Love" and "Simply Irresistable"
Many of U2's melodies.
Michael and Janet Jackson's music.

Oh, the heck with it...
Bangles, Go-Go's, B-52's, Lisa Stansfield, Eurythmics, Duran Duran, the stuff mentioned by others, etc., and so on, and so forth, ad infinitum! Whew--I think I'll go rest now. 😛
