feathers are nice to use, but i get how they aren't as effective in 'merciless' tickle sessions. the tongue is extremely effective, as is a good, long paint brush with a soft tip and the odd electric toothbrush or eight!

I prefer to just vote prior to reading everyone's comments, for a sort of 'purity' of response, if you will. I knew immediately which choice would be the obvious winner for this poll!

Both. It depends on the lee. Some are sensitive to feathers where others aren't. Tongues are lethat too. I find that brushes soft and firm really get the point across effectively.

I got lucky enough to have a friend use some very soft, small feathers on my underarms the other night. They made me jerk and try to bring my arms down right away. Am I just too sensitive?
 
It's not even a contest. Feathers almost never work, especially on the feet. I've no idea why the feather is considered a tickling symbol.
 
I have not found feathers to be effective, but some people like them for "intimate area" tickling 😉
 
I've never been tickled by a feather but I cannot imagine that it could possibly be anywhere near as incapacitating as the brisk and relentless touch of (esp. a woman's) fingertips, whch are devilish instruments that can combine strength and lightness at the same time in a way that I'd guess no feather--and probably no other inanimate object--could.

Well, actually, it varies a lot from person to person. While feathers are usually very lame (though there are exceptions), some people are actually more sensitive to tools than to fingers. And even then, the effectiveness of specific tools also varies a lot from person to person. For example, I've worked with models for whom a comb or a hairbrush is the most effective technique, but other people don't react to them at all or just find them uncomfortable, while some other tool, like an electric toothbrush applied at the base of the toes, for instance, is about as bad as it gets for them. It's just not possible to generalize about this sort of thing.
 
Depends on the lee. Some aren't sensetive enough for feathers. But I prefer em!

I voted feathers, of course. They honestly do tickle like crazy. It's a shame that so many 'lers are of the fingers-only crowd. I always thought feathers would be useless before I tried them out, but I had a shock. They actually tickle pretty bad, and in some places, WORSE than fingers. So it depends what you're after. i voted fingers..feathers work very well on my upper body, like my face..:rant: neck etc...and the tops of my feet and in between my toes...but feathers never got much of a reaction from me on the soles of my feet..and believe me..my soles are super ticklish...hmm if the feather were turned around and the sharp side used..eeks...however maybe i've not been exposed to the right type of feather
