I get all the Philly TV stations where I live. On WPVI TV, the ABC station from Philadelphia, there is a news anchor, Jim Gardner, who has been at that station for thirty three years. Most people who live in the Philly area probably have heard of or seen him. All that WPVI seems to do lately, every newscast, is to devote the majority of the newscast, the "Big Story" as they like to call it, to the Phillies. After all last postseason, this whole regular season, and this postseason, I'm sick of it already!
The Phillies have been very good the last three years, winning three straight NL East titles, and yes, they did an amazing thing, winning the World Series in 2008, but I dont think that news stations, especially one that promotes a "professional newscast" like WPVI does, should devote the majority of the newscast, every newscast, to them. There are other things going on in the world.
Most people who know me know that I'm a Braves fan. and no, this post is not "sour grapes" from someone whose team didnt make it to postseason. The Braves gave me a wonderful fifteen years from 1991 to 2005, winning fourteen straight division titles, five NL pennants, and the World Series. It's just... God, it's enough Phillies already!
While we long time baseball fans know that anything can happen in a short series, even if the Phillies do win the NLCS, they should lose to the Yankees in the World Series.
