I think ferrets are cute, but I wouldn't want to handle one without thick gloves because they like to nibble on human flesh 😀

I like ferrets too, but to me they make me think of furry windsocks (the things you put on poles)

You have to wonder how this thread got from pictures of feet to illegal ferrets! But Vlad I'm intruiged now why are ferrets illegal in California, do you know the reason? Are they just bodacious surfers and all the surf dudes get jealous? hehe 😀

wtf!? Is there a litigated reason?

I'll just give a quick explaination, so as to not take this thread off-topic.

There is a litigated reason. I'm not entirely certain as local laws may differ, but from what I understand about it, ferrets cannot be sold or purchased in California. As for owning after having purchased it out of state or over the internet, I think thats more of a local thing. This is an actual law though, and it has been in effect for years.

The actual reason for this is because when ferrets used to be legal and were bred here, there was a scare when ferrets had got loose in the wild and had overbred at one point I think and ended up killing chickens and other poltry near farm lands and created or were at high risk of creating a disease or strain of a disease that was potentially harmful to humans and other livestock and domesticated animals. They were also believed to have infected the chickens and tainted them. As this was a long time ago, the banning is no longer justified in most people's opinions, and the concern minimal in light of heighted ferret knowledge and awareness.

But, for obvious health reasons, ferrets were banned. There have been many efforts made to bring ferrets back to California in a legal capacity, but last time I checked, lobbyists and pro-ferret activists have made little progress.

This is all annoying for me (and alot of people), since they sell ferret food, products, and books here, but not the ferrets themselves...no no they are illegal. So its all a huge tease for would-be ferret owners. 🙄

Answered your question above.

And that would be cool and cute if they were surfers *^___^*

They should make a movie about a ferret that goes on an adventure and can talk or something. It would probably bomb, but I'd watch it anyway. Go ferret!

I split the ferret discussion from the foot pics thread so that you may all feel free to continue it with no worries about being off-topic 🙂

From reading a few ferrets forums and such, I have heard that there are people in California that own ferrets (secretly). My advice though is not to do it, because if you get caught you're going to lose the animal. If I remember correctly it will be put to sleep. California has very harsh anti-ferret laws, I beleive there are cities outside of California that might have similar laws, but California is the state I know of where ferrets are illegal in their entirety.

As for having a ferret as a pet, I like them. They are very energetic and enjoyable when active. They can be demanding, but most pets actually are with the exception of farm cats.

So if you want a ferret, word to the wise, check your local ordinances first.

hmmm.. human flesh... tastes like beef....

In the Pacific, it is rumoured that the natives love Spam (the kind in the blue can, not the e-mail variety) because it tastes like people 🙂

I shall draw a ferret riding a surf board. The gods have decreed it, it shall be done. 😀

Vlad, I'd love to see it. Especially since it would be derived from my original question.. 😀

All I know about Ferrets is that you should always get two of them. They are so starved for attention that if you get one by itself it'll go nuts without constant supervision. The two will keep each other occupied.

@ ScouseJim:

I already have an image in my head for for the angle, the pose, etc. 😀

And of course you're to be thanked for the idea. I have other ideas too, like a ferret fishing in a boat, in a lake, with a fishing hat, vest, etc.

The world will know ferret! 😀

@ Abadon:

Yeah? Well, she either has them illegally, or I can only assume that if she does have them legally, she's aqquired some sort of permit.

@ blackmagicjack:

Thats a good idea. I've never drawn a motorcycle before, so that would be an interesting challenge.

We'll have to see how the surfer ferret ones goes, first.

No surprise: they - allegedly - are very distant relatives, and they share some habits and habitats.

Cedric is really cute 🙂 I don't see the thing against the red eyes really.

It is really mean! Ok, when I run for president, I'm officially pushing for equality for red-eyed ferrets! Who's with me?!

Well, how can we say we care about all lives on this planet if we choose to ignore those who are discriminated against the most, as the red-eyed ferrets have been? Even if I do not win, I shall push strongly for equal rights, so that good ferrets like Cedric will be able to wake up and not be looked at like there's something wrong.

Cedric is an albino, so he's got red eyes. It's also a sign of ferret super powers, so becareful, he might learn how to start the car soon.

Seriously ferrets are great pets (have I said this before). I have one male and two females. The male (Ghost) is by far the most laid back of the bunch, though he'll go crazy over bananas.

So does Cedric have any interesting habits? Plus kudos for to you for rescuing him, I hate seeing older ferrets stuck in pet stores. They need homes and places to roam.
