Ferrets (split from "feet pics" thread)

Well, with the red eyes, all you have to worry about is Cedric doing a Cyclops impersonation and shooting optic blasts really.

It's like with dogs. They see the floor as their shelf, and anything on the floor is fair game.

he loves to run backwards and and he has a thing for stealing socks lol

They all do the running backwards thing (and the running in Diagonals). Mine steel pens and put them in their cubby hole.

Alot of people say ferrets are too high maintenance and fussy to have as pets, but I'm already well informed and aware of the responsibility and proper care ferrets need. I want a ferret eventually! Am I going to have to move out of state just to have one!? LOL 🙁

mine does that too! his cage has a sharpie in it and a shredded envelope!

Just watch to make sure he doesn't get a hold of erasers or rubber that he can chew to bits. These can problems for him if he swallows them.

Does he climb? Ghost isn't really a climber, but he can, the other two on the other hand are like rats, if they can put there claws into it, they can climb it.

Yeah, the gland can be. Some people actually raise skunks too and get them de-stinked (de-stunked?), and they're supposed to make nice pets, so I imagine the same is the case with ferrets too.

They can be descented, they still have an ordor, but it's less. They also can be litter boxed train, but that takes work, and they need more than one box. They aren't the type of critter to run through three rooms to get to the toilet.

they just poop a lot. but they poop in corners. many complain about their natural odor but it doesnt bother me at all. plus i think their scent comes from a gland that can be expressed by a vet or something.

Yeah, I heard all about the gland and the natural odor ferrets exude. It doesn't discourage me at all. The only thing I worry about is my ferret tearing up the furnature, getting inside it, etc. I'm sure they can be trained not to do this over time, or be given or made alternatives, and if you are patient with them, but at first it could really be a problem...

No, it's not worth it. I actually didn't know it causes them pain, and I for one wouldn't want to bring that on any animal.

but i hear that its painful for them 🙁 like if they get scared theyre natural instinct is to spray their scent but theres nothing there and it causes pain. in my opinion its not worth it if thats the case

I don't think it's worth it either, if thats true. I'd rather put up with the odor than to know my pet may be in pain sometimes. Its not too cruel, but it is to a degree.

Its definitely not as bad as de-clawing a cat, which I think is sickening.

Just have to be choosy with your furniture. Ferrets are very curious, so reclinig chairs and couches are not safe for them. I haven't had any problems ripping there way into furniture though. Mine rather just bury themselves in the blankets or crawl around in the dresser.

Drats, I have a reclining couch! I'm sitting on it right now.

just dont recline when hes loose!! u wanna get him a cage or playpen?

Whatever I've got to do to make the little critter happy. I don't mind spoiling my pets, especially if it is because of their temperment or specific needs.

Of course. I wouldn't be able to be with him/her all day, afterall. 🙁

Yes, sadly, I doubt that workplaces let ferrets come to the office.

I imagine it would need it's own time alone anyway to sleep and rest. Even animals don't like being pestered all the time.

I had 1 ferret and 4 skunks at one time! I find the musky odor of ferret (or skunk) very plesant actually. Although these days when I see a ferret I think of Draco malfoy.. LOL I think they should have left him a ferret! Kim
