I've been meaning to ask this: how do you flip-flop wearers STAND that thing between your toes that holds them on?? For years I've tried on various pairs every spring, thinking I'd find some that don't hurt. So far it's been over 30 yrs and no dice, I can't walk 5 feet without yanking them off in agony. Am I really that sensitive or is there some trick I don't know about...? OWCH :ranty:

I trained myself to pick up objects with my feet - it keeps your hands free for other things, and it helps you get used to the sensation of things between your toes. 😎

I, too, can pick up items with my toes. But damn, the toe thong thing is so not comfortable. I don't care how cheap or cute they are...they aren't worth the pain and suffering (ok, I feel a blister coming on as I type).

I also have a problem with finding them pretty uncomfortable.

I have got a pair of white leather shoes with the toe post in them and I can actually wear those. Just have to find a pair thats bearable for you.

I wish I could wear more of them as they look lovely with the styles out there nowadays.

I'm just like you, Bella. Never found a pair, that doesn't hurt.
As cute as some of them are, they're just too uncomfortable for me.
I always thought, it's because my toes are quite short. Could that be a reason?

Really expensive flipflops may be the way forward. My ladyfriend hated flip flops, til she found a pair by a brand called Rainbow.

Now she's never out of them.

Flip flops actually can cause long-term problems in the knees and lower back because of poor arch support. A sturdy pair of sandals is much better for you. 🙂

Snail Shell

I also like the Gladiator sandals out at the minute, but, they are so flat, they'd kill my feet in no time. I need a heel or platform to cushion my feet.

When I first started wearing those cheap Old Navy 2/$5 flip flops, I didn't like the thing between my toes either, but all the "cool kids" were wearing them, so I just sucked it up until I got used to it, now I love them, and they don't hurt at all 😀

Same with my engagement ring (well, not the cool kid part). It was uncomfortable where it separated my fingers, but I got used to it after awhile, now it feels weird NOT to wear it.

So my advice would be I guess either get used to it, or screw it and wear whatever's comfortable for you 🙂 I'm sure they have fabric ones out there too, that are thinner and not so hard-round-plastic-y, that would likely be more comfortable.

You just have to walk through the pain. Actually, I hate flip flops too for this very reason. Some kind of spongy Styrofoam rubbing between your toes all day = raw skin. No thanks. That's why I cut mine off altogether.

I've never understood the whole flip-flop craze. They seem trashy to me, as a guy with a foot fetish... like a woman walking around with nothing on for a top but a cheap, gaudy sports bra with holes in it, or something, and the rest of her upper body needs a wash. The sound of flipping and flopping is like nails on a chalkboard, and anyone who's worn flip-flops for the better part of a day will have absolutely filthy feet. I've seen girls whose skin (elsewhere), faces, and hair looked as if they spent the first four hours of every day in a movie makeup trailer, or at a spa, and their feet were caked with dirt.

Sandals, clogs, and open-toed shoes are much more attractive, although easily overdone; it's so much nicer to leave something to the imagination, tease, play hard-to-get, etc.

The middle finger of my right hand has a callus where a pen or pencil rubs against it all the time. If I hold the pen in my left hand the same way and try to write, it irritates that spot.

So if you really want to wear flip-flops, keep wearing them until you get a callus between your big and second toes and then you won't feel the post any more.

On the other hand, your feet won't be as pretty. 🙁

Alternativly, there's the velcro sort you can where. Just a strap over the top of your feet connected via velcro. Slippy on the skin at times but doesn't rub.

Okay so I'm totally gonna capitalize on my new line of work:

If you are looking for flip flops, or sandals with support and such check out the place I work for http://www.thewalkingcompany.com. Everything has support and is super comfy. Not cheap, but worth it. The shoes feel so good. I promise I am not trying to sell shoes, only sharing what I know. 🙂

Yep... Ow!

I wear them only because they are easy to slip on and off and are good for quick trips. But for any long walking, they would not be my choice of footwear.

I'll take sandals over flip-flops any day.

I've never really had an issue with them. But I do try not to wear them for long periods of time, because they will start to irritate after awhile.

O.O R u srs?! Flip-flops are the best thing ever!

And as for them hurting....you need to have been born in Cali to tolerate them seven (well six for me) days a week!
😀

LOL that explains it, I was born in Brooklyn and flip-flops would have let in all the summer street sludge :xlime: Now we did wear jelly shoes, which were a different, more tolerable kind of cheap-shoe-hurt...

YOU MEAN CROCS?!?! *throws up a little*

No, Jelly shoes aren't crocks. Jellyies were these soft plastic, moldable, stick to your skin when you sweat kind of shoe. Crocs are those ugly plastic clogs that everyone finds so comfy.

Ew NO, jellies and crocs are totally different things, we didn't have crocs in the '70's and '80's.

FYI last summer I tried on a pair of white crocs just to see what the big deal was; I took them the hell off when Jhoti said I looked like Smurfette

I just choked on my mouthwash. I'm brushing my teeth. Or...was. Thanks. 😛

Geeky as it is, I've always been a fan of those flat strapped-sandals instead. They wrap around your feet, and they don't necessarily look like Birkenstocks. They still kinda slip on, but they don't look as icky and they don't hurt unless you get them in the wrong size.

I think the logic of flip flops is that they're easy and keep your feet cool, the same way sweatshirts are ugly but people wear them because they're roomy and cozy.
